USA vs Australia live streaming: How to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup match

The US men’s national team made a statement to open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, beating Paraguay 4-1 last week behind two goals from Folarin Balogun.

The US scored less than seven minutes later, taking a 1-0 lead when Damian Bobadilla of Paraguay redirected the ball into his own net. Fans inside a packed stadium in Inglewood, California, roared as the USMNT got the first chance.

The result gave the United States its biggest World Cup margin of victory since 1930, when the Americans won twice by 3-0 goals in the first edition of the tournament.

After opening the tournament in Southern California, the USMNT will remain on the West Coast, switching north to Seattle for their next group game against Australia at 3 pm ET.

Australia opened their World Cup campaign last week with a 2-0 win over Türkiye.

Under head coach Mauricio Pochettino, the USMNT entered the tournament as the 17th team in the FIFA World Rankings. FIFA determines its world rankings using the Elo rating system, which rewards teams for wins and penalizes them for losses while reinforcing the strength of the competition.

Team USA midfielder Christian Pulisic’s availability remains a question mark after he was ruled out of last week’s win over Paraguay with a left calf problem. Pulisic said the move was a precautionary measure after kicking the calf, adding that he “hopes it’s nothing.”

Pochettino said he would consult with a doctor before making a decision on whether Pulisic could play in the crucial Group D clash. The result of this game could go a long way in determining which team sits at the top next week.

“Tonight – the day before the game – we have a meeting with the medical staff and we will check the whole team, the players and tomorrow we will communicate about the things we cannot agree on. [on] tonight,” Pochettino told reporters on Thursday. “He’s involved[ed]he is much better since friday. We’ll see.”
