Trump DOJ official looks into why TPUSA chapter reported to child protective services

A senior Trump administration official revealed Monday that the Justice Department was investigating a report that a chapter of Turning Point USA in Maryland was referred to child protective services by a “left-wing” member of the public.

“I’m looking into this,” Harmeet Dhillon, the DOJ’s assistant attorney general for civil rights, wrote to X, in response to a video from a school board meeting in Calvert County, Maryland where a woman said she reported the local chapter of the activist group founded by the late Charlie Kirk in child protective services.

The woman, who identified herself as Nancy Krause, said parents were not allowed in TPUSA meetings at Northern High School and expressed concern about school board members allegedly speaking to the group.

“Students are widely recognized as vulnerable individuals at critical, developmental stages and vulnerable to influence,” Krause argued during the meeting. “All members of the board of education in this room are certified journalists under government law, just like me.

“Based on the circumstances surrounding this event, a report was made to child protective services.”

Krause said the high school’s TPUSA chapter refused to allow adults to attend meetings, prompting her to report the club to child protective services. calvertcountyps

Education Freedom Institute President Corey A. DeAngelis described Krause as a “left-wing Karen” in a social media post that featured a school board meeting episode that Dhillon later responded to.

“These lunatics want to take your children away from you if you’re old-fashioned,” DeAngelis said angrily.

Luke Grover, president of Northern High School TPUSA, spoke at the Calvert County school board meeting where Krause registered his grievances, according to ABC 7 News.

“We don’t have problems, we don’t hurt ourselves,” Grover pleaded.

“We are not doing anything wrong, our first meeting was in November, we wrote letters to the veterans and had meaningful discussions on how we can support our veteran community,” he added.

Grover, 17, criticized the “misinformation” that has been “spread about our club,” including allegations that the high school club is “coaching kids,” which he vehemently denied.

The student leader also explained that because of the online hate directed at his group, the club banned “any adults we didn’t know” from attending meetings.

However, Grover noted that parents and older volunteers known to the group members were allowed in the meetings.

Grover is a Maryland GOP Del. Mark Fisher, who said he was proud of his high school team’s streak.

“I’m proud of these students and the high school because they know the Constitution, they know their rights, and they want to express themselves freely,” Fisher told ABC 7 News. “Shame on these elders for attacking children.”
