Kate Middleton comforts young mother Claire Lorente as she finishes cancer treatment during a tearful moment

Kate Middleton shared a touching moment with her mother as she celebrated the end of her cancer treatment during the royal wedding on Thursday.
The Princess of Wales, who revealed she had cancer in March 2024 and announced she was in remission in January 2025, met Claire Lorente, 30, on the last day of her breast cancer treatment while visiting the Christie Cancer Center in Manchester, England.
After the presentation, Kate gave Lorente a warm hug and congratulated him on reaching the milestone in a video shared by Hello! magazine.
“You went well!” It means royalty.
As they talked, Kate held a reassuring hand on Lorente’s arm and asked how long he had been in treatment.
Calling it a “wonderful day” after a “difficult” journey, the princess listened as Lorente wept as she explained that she had been undergoing treatment for almost six months and was yet to undergo surgery.
The interview proved to be especially meaningful given Kate’s recent health battle.
The mother of three also admitted that cancer attacks her loved ones, she turned to Lorente’s partner and said, “I know it’s hard for families and loved ones.”
“I know how difficult it was for the children and my parents,” continued Kate. “You go with them.”
Kate then greeted the couple’s child and said, “Doesn’t Mother have courage?”
As Lorente prepared to ring the ceremonial bell marking the completion of his treatment, Kate stepped back to give him a light.
“This is your day,” he told her.
He then smiled and clapped as a dejected Lorente rang the bell, a moment that often marks the end of a cancer patient’s treatment journey.
Kate visited The Christie to learn more about the centre’s free support services, which help cancer patients and their families deal with the emotional and physical challenges of treatment.
The release marked another cancer-focused engagement for the princess as she slowly returns to public life following her treatment.
Earlier this week, Kate joined King Charles III and other members of the royal family at Cancer Research UK’s 125th anniversary party.
The event was notable because it was the first time Kate and Charles had publicly supported a cancer-related cause since they both revealed their diagnosis in 2024.
Charles, 77, is still undergoing treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer.
Prince William gave an emotional update last month on Kate’s recovery from her battle with cancer following her recent trip to Italy – the first trip abroad since her diagnosis.
“I’m proud – incredibly proud,” the Prince of Wales said in an interview with “Heart Breakfast” hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden.
“She’s been amazing,” he added of his wife. “He’s been through a lot in the last few years, especially. And he was really looking forward to the Italy trip, so I’m really glad it went so well.”
