Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo describes the difficult time he came out as gay to his wife

Beartooth singer Caleb Shomo was “shocked” when he came out as gay to his wife of 14 years, Fleur Shomo.
“I was just bawling if—I was bawling my eyes out, trying so hard to talk,” she said on Wednesday’s episode of the “With Respect” podcast hosted by “Vanderpump Rules” alums Katie Maloney and Dayna Kathan.
“And I’m really struggling to say things, and obviously this is a very difficult thing, and I feel so scared and nervous in this situation that it was really hard to say, and I didn’t say it well,” the 33-year-old singer continued.
Caleb said that after keeping his sexuality “careless” for a long time, he had a “really difficult” conversation with Fleur where he told her “the way I feel about girls, I feel about boys.”
“There is something I have been running from for a long time.” And I don’t want to run anymore,” he recalled, adding: “And yeah, after that, the f—ing hinges came off.”
Caleb explained that he was able to “stop hating himself so much” after he got out and “quickly” went to therapy, which helped him deal with his “severe ADHD.”
“I understand after many lives that if I don’t do very specific things in my daily routine to avoid that, it’s easy for me to get out and go back to the hole and bury everything back down,” he said. “So I was like, I’m going to take this seriously.”
The “Last Breath” singer said that “through therapy, exercise, good food, sunshine, good sleep and creativity,” he’s been able to do a better job of coming to terms with being gay.
Later in the podcast, Caleb said his “biggest goal” in life now is to love himself and help others get to that place, though he admitted he has a “long way to go” to “forgive himself.”
“I feel like I’m on my way,” she said. “I’m letting this happen, I’m not trying to rush anything. I’m not trying to force anything. One step at a time.”
Caleb came out as gay in a statement on Instagram on May 23, telling fans that he’s been “open and honest” about his sexuality for “a long time now.”
The singer said that after he “spent a decade burying his feelings in alcohol,” he vowed to stop suppressing his feelings and give himself the grace to “feel love for himself.”
Fleur, who tied the knot with Caleb in 2012, wrote on her Instagram page that supporting her husband “when he lost everything was so hard to realize.”
She also said that being married to Caleb for 14 years “has been beautiful and full of fun, adventure and love.”
“I already miss you and my husband more than anything,” she added. “Our story was good. And now it’s over.”
Fleur and Caleb have no children together.
