Is Off-Campus Steve Howey Coming Back For Season 2 After Troubled Exit?

Steve Howey he played an important role Off campus after his shocking exit High power – but will she be leaving the Prime Video series for season 2?
Howey played at Phil aka Garrett’s (Belmont Camel) is an abusive father and former NHL player who transitioned from Elle Kennedy’s book to TV personality. His story was never fully wrapped up, leaving questions about Howey reprising his role.
Cameli spoke to him alone Us Weekly about his future Off campus.
“I totally understand your concern,” he shared of each season of the Prime Video show that focuses on a different fictional couple. “We’ll be going all the time.”
Ella Bright confirmed that the show is “hanging on” before Cameli added, “We’re excited to see what season 2 has in store. [us].”
Howey has been in many projects – and a few surprises involving his characters. In the ABCs High powerHowey’s character was shot at the end of season 2, his fate is yet to be determined. Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) arrived just in time to get Wagner medical attention, and his future depends largely on what the new runner decides.
Deadline previously reported that Howey only signed a one-year deal. Wagner’s story hasn’t been fully fleshed out yet, and there’s a chance that Howey could return as a guest star at the beginning of season 3 to wrap up his arc.
The actor is booked and busy with the upcoming seasons of Off Campus, Ransom Canyon and The Lincoln Lawyer. High Potential is also waiting for a replacement showrunner after Todd Harthan left the show to focus on the upcoming live-action adaptation of Christopher Paolini’s adult book series, The Inheritance Cycle.
High Potential was started by Drew Goddard. Rob Thomas, on the other hand, was expected to serve as the show’s producer before exiting in June 2024, months before the series premiere. Finally Harthan was announced as the new producer and served as executive producer.
Harthan teased the idea of a series while talking to him Us in January.
“It’s a very difficult journey. We’re going to start taking out the most sensitive stuff with Morgan, as it relates to all things Roman,” he said at the time. “There are all kinds of trials and tribulations that will happen to the kids in the house. It will be messy and difficult – hopefully in the best possible way to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.”
He concluded, “Our job now as we get to the back half of season two is to fill in some of the big gaps and develop some of the relationships. You’re going to see some strong things happen within Steve Howey’s character, and Captain Wagner is really starting to blossom in the back half. That creates a nice mess with the soap in a lot of the usual ways. It’s just coming together and trying to bring our audience together and keep trying to bring our audience together. Guess.”
Howey, on the other hand, is open to joining High power in season 2.
“Nick comes in and ruffles some feathers. But his intentions and goals aren’t to do that. He wants to help and we’re starting to see that in different episodes,” he teased in September 2025. “That was my fear and my concern. When you have lightning like that in a bottle of energy for these characters, throwing in another character can throw that into something. I still haven’t done that cool.”
