How NASCAR’s Kyle Busch Spent His Last Days Before Dying

Before Kyle BuschUnexpectedly passing away, the NASCAR driver spent his last days with loved ones and competing in his sport.

NASCAR confirmed that Busch died at the age of 41 on May 21, 2026, after being admitted to the hospital “critically ill.”

“We are deeply saddened and saddened to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of the greatest and most ruthless drivers in the sport,” NASCAR said in a statement via X. “Our condolences go out to the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing and the entire sports community.”

Busch is survived by wife Samantha and their son, Brexton, 11, and daughter, Lennix, 4.

Kyle Busch Celebrated Son Braxton’s Birthday

Busch’s last Instagram post was a celebratory message to Braxton in honor of her 11th birthday on May 18.

“Happy Birthday Braxton!!!” the race car driver wrote next to a carousel of photos of Busch and his family. “Your mom and I are so proud of who you are! You’re the best kid on and off the track, you amaze us every day. Keep doing what you’re doing and there’s no limit to what you’ll achieve! I love you buddy!”

As we celebrate Mother’s Day 2026, Busch also wished daughter Lennix a happy birthday.

“Happy Birthday to our crazy Lennix,” she wrote on Instagram on May 10. “You keep us laughing, keep us on our toes, and somehow make every day brighter at the same time. I’m lucky to be alive with you girls. I love you all more than you know!!”

Busch competed in his final NASCAR All-Star Race on May 17 at Dover International Speedway. Two days earlier, he participated in a truck series where he won the EcoSave 200.

After his final NASCAR race, Busch shared a message with fans that hinted at a possible end to his career.

“You never know when the last one will be,” he told reporters of his legacy in racing.

Kyle Busch was hospitalized before his death

Busch’s family announced via X that the driver was hospitalized with a “serious illness.”

“Kyle has been very ill which resulted in his hospitalization,” read a statement on May 21. “He is currently receiving treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled events this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for your understanding and privacy as our family deals with this situation.”

Busch was scheduled to compete in the Coca-Cola 600 on May 24. Busch’s team, Richard Childress Racing, announced that Austin Hill would replace him.

“Kyle Busch’s health is our top priority and he and his family have RCR’s full resources behind them,” RCR said in a statement via X. “Kyle is an important part of our organization and we wish him a safe and speedy recovery. His No. 8 Chevrolet will be ready and waiting for him. A big thank you to Austin Hill for entering this weekend to drive the Chevle Kylet. Your prayers, and help us respect the family’s privacy at this time.”
