Family of mother of California killer who killed husband and 6-day-old baby reveals last hours before bloodshed

A happy gathering for a California family just hours after welcoming a baby turned into a horrific suicide, after authorities say a mother shot and killed her husband and two children before killing herself in the North Hills.

Marine Basmajian, 30, killed her husband Khajag Basmajia, 31, and their two children, 2-year-old Alec and six-day-old baby Ella, at the family’s Londelius Street home on May 27, just before 8 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

He then turned the gun on himself.

Officials said the couple’s home situation has recently changed after they moved to Khajag’s parents’ residence in North Hills for security reasons.

The tragedy happened at the foreclosed home of Khajag’s parents, where the couple lived after their Winnetka property was burglarized twice in two years.

Family members said the break-in left Marine especially nervous.

After the first burglary, Khajag bought a self-defense gun, the same gun later used in the murder, according to relatives.

What makes this case even more disturbing is what happened the night before the violence.

Family members said the family had gathered to celebrate the birth of baby Ella, who was just six days old.

The night reportedly included music, pizza, and family dancing.

Arthur Shamlyan, Marine’s brother, described the incident, saying:

“They were all in the family room and they were dancing, eating pizza, listening to music,” Arthur Shamlyan told the Daily Mail. “The family is very close.”

After this, relatives have been struggling to understand what led to the murder.

Some believe that Marine may have been suffering from severe postpartum psychosis, a condition that can cause a break in the experience after giving birth, bringing with it strange visions, delusions, confusion and extreme mood swings.

Shamlyan said: “Postnatal depression is the only thing we can think of because what she was doing was not like her.”

The LAPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the North Hills tragedy.
