Democrat Hakeem Jeffries rips Trump for “ruining” Knicks’ first NBA Finals appearance in 27 years

President Donald Trump, a lifelong New York Knicks fan, and arguably the most famous New Yorker of all time, has Democrats like Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries in a frenzy after announcing he will attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.

On Friday’s CNN News Central, anchor John Berman asked Jeffries how he believed Knicks fans would react to Trump’s inauguration. “I’m not sure if he’ll be well received,” Jeffries replied before trying to embarrass the president.

“Why does Donald Trump always destroy a good thing? As a matter of fact, the Knicks have not been in the NBA finals for 27 years. The city is trying to celebrate this. We have accepted this team, and this guy should inject himself,” Jeffries lowered the burden while failing to note that Trump has been a fan of the Knicks all his life, attending many games.

Heck, even Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver both recognized that Trump is a devoted Knicks fan, who should be welcomed. Silver said, “Before he ran for office, he was a huge Knicks fan,” adding that Trump has attended many Knicks games and NBA Drafts at Madison Square Garden over the years. As Mamdani said Thursday at a press conference, “We look forward to welcoming any New Yorker who is excited about the Knicks to have that opportunity to win a championship.”

Mayor Mamdani confirmed that he will be at Madison Square Garden in Game 3 to support the Knicks, noting that he will be sitting in a “very different section” than Trump.

Jeffries continued, “I mean, come on, seriously, give us a break. Why isn’t this guy focused on trying to improve the quality of life for the American people? Because Trump’s economy has been a disaster.”

Jeffries, who does not plan to attend the game himself, as he said on CNN, should focus on his political career, which is well known for allowing men in women’s sports and other nonsensical policy decisions and good signings.

Personally, I think the reception will be a mixed bag, but with more cheers and cheers than boos and boos. New Yorkers love or hate the guy. There is no gray area. No matter what, it will be history. If Trump attends Game 3, it will be the first time a US president has attended an NBA Finals game.
