Donald TrumpThe doctor gave an insight into the neck rash that appeared on the back of the president’s neck in recent weeks.
“President Trump uses a very common cream on the right side of his neck, which is a skin protection treatment,” Dr. Sean Barbella said a statement sent by CNN on Monday, March 2. “The President is using the treatment for one week, and the redness is expected to continue for several weeks.”
The medical expert did not reveal the reason why Trump, 79, needed the cream. The White House did not address the issue of the president’s skin.
Earlier on Monday, Trump participated in the Medal of Honor Ceremony at the White House. During the event, Trump appeared to have a red, itchy rash on the right back of his neck. The leather issue was visible near the president’s hair and extended to the end of his shirt.
This is not the first time Trump has been seen with skin problems. In the past, she has been photographed with bruises on her hand that are sometimes covered up with make-up. White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt addressed Trump’s injury at a February 2025 press conference.
“President Trump has bruises on his hand because he’s always working and shaking hands all day every day,” Leavitt said at the time. “President Trump is a man of the people. His commitment is unwavering, and he proves it every day.”
Later that year, Barbabella revealed that Trump, the oldest president to take the oath of office, was diagnosed with venous insufficiency. The condition is a type of venous disease that occurs when the veins in a person’s legs are damaged, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
“In recent weeks, President Trump has noticed slight swelling in his lower legs,” Barbabella wrote in a letter read by Leavitt at a July 2025 press conference. “Along with routine medical care and extreme caution, this concern was properly evaluated by the White House Medical Unit.”
Barbabella’s note added that chronic venous insufficiency is “a dangerous and common condition, especially in people over 70 years old.” He also pointed out that Trump is “in very good health.”
Earlier this year, Trump shared that his injuries were the result of the amount of aspirin he took. In a January 2026 interview with the Wall Street Journal, Trump revealed that he takes 325mg of aspirin a day (According to the Mayo Clinic, the standard daily dose of aspirin therapy ranges between 75 mg and 325 mg.)

Later that month, Trump appeared to have a wound on his left hand instead of his right. (Trump shakes hands with his right hand.)
Leavitt testified that the injury to the left hand was caused by Trump hitting his hand on the corner of the table.
