Which RFA Will Blink First, and Maple Leafs President Talks Inside and Out

Some new, pending RFA’s will apply. Who will set the next bar?

TSN: There are some big-name RFAs pending from the 2023 draft who will be looking at a big, new deal, but they remain patient. Teams would have liked to have them signed now, but the likes of Connor Bedard, Leo Carlsson, and Adam Fantilli have stalled as market dynamics have shifted. Even though he’s coming out of the 2024 draft, are they waiting for Macklin Celebrini to sign an extension first? Chris Johnston:

“And most interesting of all, Gino, I don’t think those guys would mind if the young player, Macklin Celebrini, who can sign his next contract starting July 1 with the San Jose Sharks, if he goes first to find out what the market rate is. Of course, Celebrini is the most productive of these young players in terms of his season almost at the end of the year.”

Time will also be considered, as this season is the last time players will be able to sign for eight years.

NHL Injuries: Avs, Red Wings, Panthers, Islanders, Senators, Penguins, and more

TSN: The fields of Macklin Celebrini and Connor Bedard will be eyeing each other to see who will blink first. Johnston on IT:

“Now, you’d think it would be Bedard, since his contract is up, but I don’t know if his camp will care if Celebrini puts the number on the board first at this time, although it’s not clear if that will happen.

If the Sharks have never met with Celebrini’s extended camp, there will be silence in the same way in the case of Bedard, but it is definitely a matter of these players being compared to each other, but also looking at each other and wondering who will sign and where those numbers will go this summer.”

The president of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the CEO of MLSE meet with employees and talk to outsiders

TSN: According to Pierre LeBrun, the president of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the CEO of MLSE, Keith Pelley, has already started one-on-one meetings with some employees recently, as he goes deeper into the organization. You talk to people outside the organization

“I have to point out that Pelley did not stop at his meetings in the organization but he also met with people and picked up the minds of people in the entire unit.

What’s in store for Darren Raddysh on his next contract?

What is urgent is that he has a decision to make, and more than one, and that starts with the position of GM, Brad Treliving, who has one year left on his contract.

Does Pelley decide to stick with Treliving, or does he decide to make a change there?”

It’s a critical season for the Maple Leafs, and if they’re going to make some changes, you’re going to need as much time as possible.
