She continued: “When Angus died, it was hard. I loved him so much, and I fought so hard to keep him clean. The year he died, 2023, he was one of the 73,000 people in America who died of a fentanyl overdose. I learned a lot that year, but what I realized more than anything else is that death is what gives life meaning. You can’t force the presence of truth. That life itself is amazing, it’s a gift, it’s a great blessing.”

Levinson also explained how the show will pay off on screen.

“There are a lot of scenes where people are talking to him on the phone,” he told Variety about the decision to have Fez be part of the story. “I thought if I can’t keep him alive maybe within this show I can control him and keep him alive there. I think everything was about honoring him and I can’t wait for you to see the last few episodes. I think he’s going to explode in his story. I think he’s going to love it.”

Euphoria airs on HBO Sundays at 9 pm ET.
