Bova officially returns for its fifth and final season – but where does the show go after this heartbreaking finale between Carmy’s controversial romance with Claire?
The hit Hulu series, premiering in 2022, explores the food industry through the lens of a talented chef named Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), who returned to Chicago shortly after his older brother Mike (Jon Bernthal) dying to take over their family’s sandwich shop, The Beef. After closing the location, Carmy and staff re-established the restaurant at The Bear, which has seen success and failure.
Despite building to a thriving The Bear, season 4 took a sharp left turn at the end when Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Natalie (Abby Elliott) found out that Carmy was preparing to retire and leave the restaurant to them.
This ending left fans less than happy considering that Carmy had broken up with everyone except his love interest Claire (Molly Gordon). After reconnecting earlier in the season, it appeared that the fictional couple would be getting back together, which did not please some viewers.
Fortunately, Bova has been renewed for a fifth season, which means there will be an explanation of where the story is going. Keep scrolling to find out everything we know about season 5 so far:
When does season 5 start?
Bova has been consistent about premiering in June since its 2022 debut. According to that schedule, season 5 will premiere on June 25 with all episodes dropping at the same time.
Who’s Back in the Cast?
Based on the events of season 4, White, Edebiri, Moss-Bachrach, Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Edwin Lee Gibson again Matthew Matheson they are expected to return. Will Poulter, Oliver Platt, Chris Witaske, Gordon, Ricky Staffieri, Gillian Jacobs again Jamie Lee Curtis they played a big role in the fourth season and are expected to return.
Bova continued to include Bernthal’s character through flashbacks before Mikey’s death.
What About Guest Stars?
If there is one thing Bova always finds a way to bring all the A-listers to Chicago. In season 4 which included the new ones Brie Larson but also familiar faces like John Mulaney, Sarah Ramos again Josh Hartnett.
Will There Be More Taylor Swift Nods?
Although season 4 has been stripped back to Swiftie vibes (only including one behind-the-scenes song), it’s still very possible that her music will play a role in the future.
Where did you save the Program?
In the season 4 finale, Sydney was unhappy to find out that her partner was leaving her, leading to an emotional conflict. Richie joins in and their fight gets worse when Carmy brings up Mike and how the group is still working through their grief. Sydney agreed to stay under one condition – she wanted Richie to be her partner.
Natalie was also worried when she realized that Carmy was leaving the family business behind. He began to cry as the scene shifts to The Bear at night as a timer Cicero (Oliver Platt) offered them to mark the remaining two months to save the restaurant from reaching its reckoning time.
The ending initially felt like a series finale – especially with no clarity on whether The Bear would succeed with Sydney in charge or if it was about to go under.
Will Carmy and Claire Stay Together Despite the Backlash?
Based on previous seasons, Claire will likely return despite not being written into the story beyond being Carmy’s love interest. It didn’t help that some viewers felt more chemistry between Carmy and Sydney, played by Gordon’s best friend in life Edebiri.
Gordon, who has been linked to White since 2024, addressed the backlash from fans before season 4 began.
“I’m always ‘the friend,'” she told Vanity Fair in June 2025. “I’ve never played a boyfriend. I was like, ‘Wow, this is going to be a different experience.’
Gordon noted that White’s role “is a character that people feel very protective of, and it was controversial to bring a romantic element to the show. That was sometimes annoying, fascinating and interesting – to be a part of something that people have opinions about.”
How Many Seasons of the ‘Bear’ Can There Be?
Moss-Bachrach said The Telegraph in June 2024 he didn’t expect the show to continue for long, saying, “I feel like we’re getting closer to the end of The Bear. It seems like that story is wrapping up to me.”
The actor said he will miss playing Richie. “[He’s] I’m very likable,” said Moss-Bachrach.
It seems important to note that the actors filmed season 3 and 4 at the same time due to the busy schedules of White, Edebiri and Moss-Bachrach, so that the finale is closer.
FX confirmed in May 2026 that season 5 is the show’s last.
Have Any Decisions Been Made About The Future Of The Show?
FX chairman John Landgraf he told Variety in July 2024 regarding the plan for the series, saying, “We really don’t know.”
He went on to say: “These decisions are important decisions, they are about the extent of the matter.” [creator Christopher Storer] should you tell? I mean, obviously, I hope you have more … You just have to follow the art.”
Jamie Lee Curtis later confirmed that the cast was told that the show was done after season 5. “Everybody’s making sure the show is ending, I don’t understand why,” he told Access Hollywood in March 2026. “Everybody understood it was the last season of the show. If it’s not, then I’m just going to beat it completely, I think they all said that about the last season.”
Where is Tina’s story heading?
Liza Colón-Zayas made it clear in June 2025 that she knows nothing about the future.
“I don’t know. I really don’t know. We don’t know. We don’t know the change of strategy – Carmy leaving behind the need to remove the chaos, and stick to consistency – how that might affect the mouth, whoever comes in,” he commented. Variety. “Maybe that’s a Hail Mary. I honestly don’t know. Is there a Hail Mary to go through now that that clock has hit zero? I don’t know. I don’t want it to end.
Colón-Zayas said her character, Tina, will be “disappointed” with where things ended in season 4.
“Because this is not just a job. When he walked into The Beef in the ‘Napkins’ episode, it was about a job and taking any job,” he shared. “But I don’t think this is about this job. Now this is much bigger than that. This show is very much about sadness and loss, and it’s moving forward. So I think he’s going to get back on his feet. But it’s going to be difficult personally.”
As for how Colón-Zayas would feel about saying goodbye to the show?
“I have cried many times, I love my job, I don’t want it to end,” he concluded. “But what I love and respect about it is keeping the truth and the integrity and maybe the fact that the bigger and better restaurants have not been able to withstand all the challenges you know, rising prices, COVID, all these things.”
What will happen to Marcus in season 5?
As Marcus progresses in his career, Boyce admitted he feels “good” where things are ending.
“He started this journey from season 1, finding his love and finding that his thing is seen and realized in a big way, in the way you dreamed. He gets this respect in the way of the whole country,” he said. Collider in June 2025. “No matter what’s going on on the work side, this show always reminds you that despite what’s going on on the work side, you still have to think about what’s going on in your personal life. I feel good for him, but I’m also like, “Okay, now what are you going to do about real life?”
Boyce clearly doesn’t know what to expect Bova from here.
“They don’t tell me anything. I find it easier not to ask questions. I’m like, ‘You don’t have to tell me anything. That way, I don’t have to worry about it,'” she added. “I don’t know, I don’t know, as long as you feel like you’re telling the story you want to tell, wherever you decide it ends, I’m cool with it.
