Ryan Gosling And Eva Mendes Make Their First Official Appearance In Over A Decade
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have been together for over 14 years and share two children together. But it’s understandable if you don’t forget, because they’re known for keeping things incredibly low-key.
In context, Ryan and Eva met and fell in love while playing a couple in the 2012 movie, the place Beyond the Pines.
Thankfully, Ryan previously said he didn’t want to have children until he and Eva crossed paths, telling GQ in 2023: “There were times when. the place Beyond the Pines when we pretended to be a family, and I didn’t really want to pretend anymore.”
They welcomed their first child, Esmeralda, in 2014, and two years later, they became a family of four with a second daughter, Amada.
After becoming a mother, Eva scaled back her acting career to focus on raising their children, calling the decision “absurd.” “I’m lucky, and I was like, ‘If I can have this time with my kids…’ and I’m still working,” he said. Today in 2024. “I didn’t, because acting takes you places, [and] it takes you. It’s almost like a verbal agreement that says, OK, you’re going to work, and I’m going to work. I’ll just work here.”
On the other hand, Ryan’s acting career has grown exponentially in the last decade or so, thanks to movies like Nice Guys, Blade Runner 2049, La La Landagain Barbie. Although that didn’t mean Eva had joined him.
Throughout their relationship, Ryan and Eva have only made one red carpet appearance, which was to promote the place Beyond the Pines in 2012. Even when Ryan was nominated for Oscars in 2017 and 2024, Eva did not attend the ceremony with him.
To be clear, Eva’s absence from events like this has never sparked rumors of a breakup, as the couple often talk about each other in interviews. In the last ten years, they have been photographed together just twice – once leaving a Saturday Night Live party in 2017 and, most recently, watching the Olympics in Paris in 2024 – nothing is officially happening.
In 2023, in the middle of it all Barbie hype, Eva responded to a fan on Instagram who asked why she wasn’t on the red carpet with Ryan. “We don’t do those things together,” he said at the time.
Which brings us now. Ryan is currently promoting his new space film, Project Hail Marywhich opens in theaters on March 20 and is already being hailed as one of the “best films of the decade.”
While preparing to host It’s SNL for the fourth time this coming weekend, Ryan stopped by to chat with Jimmy Fallon The Tonight Show last night – and it ended up being a lot of fun.
Towards the end of the interview, Ryan said it was Eva’s birthday. Revealing that he was backstage, Jimmy asked the audience if they could sing “Happy Birthday” to him — and they agreed!
The producer went backstage to find a nonchalant Eva from Ryan’s dressing room, and filmed her walking into the studio, wearing a casual outfit that included the blue and white striped Louis Vuitton jacket that Ryan had just donned while watching. Danger!.
Ryan took Eva’s hand and led her to the stage to a cheering audience, but the excitement didn’t stop there.
After Eva took a moment to pay tribute to all the teachers and students in the live audience, Jimmy welcomed the high school marching band to perform “Happy Birthday” for him.
In fact, everything was lovely. The clip is already gaining views on TikTok, and, for some fans, this was the first time they saw Ryan and Eva in the same room, which is very awkward.
One of my favorite things about Ryan and Eva is that they are secretive, we don’t really know if they are married or not. In 2022, Eva began publicly calling Ryan her husband, seemingly confirming that they had tied the knot in private. But that’s all we know!
