Sterling K. Brown Defends Paradise 2’s Reduced Screen Time

Sterling K. Brown you know his character Xavier has little screen time in the beginning Paradise season 2 – but there’s a reason for that.
“There was a lot of discussion about it,” Brown, 49, said of himself Us Weekly about the Monday, February 23, premiere. “Are we diverting [episode] 1 and 2? Do we start with him coming out of the basement or do we start with the world outside the house?”
The actor called the change a “good twist” for viewers.
“Because I think Yana Grebenyuk Dan Fogelman has earned enough credibility and money with his audience to know when to introduce people and you don’t know who they are — but ultimately they’re going to be the fabric of the show,” Brown noted. “Seeing the plane land or crash at the end. [of the premiere] it was a nice little surprise.”
He continued: “So you always have hope — we don’t want to lose.” [the audience]. But the first episode is very powerful. Shailene holds that s*** down so much that I was like, ‘We’re going to be fine. We can wait a little longer.’”
The first episode of season 2 has been released Us to Wolley’s character Annie. When the doomsday event began, Annie was a tour guide at Graceland and survived by hiding in the basement. For a while he was joined by another worker who died from injuries sustained in the fall.

The time skip showed Annie’s meeting Thomas Doherty‘s Link, who soon became his love. Their short-lived romance ended with the couple having sex but Link had to leave to find a place to live in Colorado – and Annie was too scared to join him.
In the final moments of the episode, Annie was seen waiting for Link and appeared to be pregnant. He later met Xavier on his quest to find Link, which allowed the characters’ storylines to cross over.
“You have to grow up even more [in this episode] because I feel like the show is at once bigger and more intimate at the same time. Because a lot of things are happening outside, we don’t show the Mad Max situation,” Brown noted. Because everyone is like their own little bubble. Everyone comes out of their bubble and thinks about how they’re doing. It’s really interesting to compare and contrast. It doesn’t work if you don’t come out of that in the first episode.”
Looking ahead, Brown couldn’t tease much about what’s to come. Viewers know that Xavier is on a mission to track down his wife, Teri (Odor of Standing), who appeared in flashbacks but not the current timeline. The bunker, on the other hand, faces chaos as people rebel against the current rules and chain of command.
Brown, who is also the executive producer of the show, revealed that he has kept many secrets about the show.
“I like to know [what will happen on my projects]. But I think it’s a question you’re only asking on TV. Because when you make a movie or a play, you know the beginning, the middle and the end,” commented Kithi. “The idea that you don’t have to know or screw it up… it’s like I get a chance to help make the arc of where it ultimately goes. So I don’t mind knowing.”
New episodes of Paradise airs Monday on Hulu.
