Virginia Democrats are pushing for a tax increase after Spanberger replaced Youngkin

A new year often brings growth and opportunities. But not in Virginia.

Since last November, the winds in the commonwealth have carried a heavy weight. Elections have results, and within days of Democrat Abigail Spanberger’s reign, Virginians are reaping the fruits of their ballot box decisions. This is no longer a warning.

Now that Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s clock is up, that progress is under attack. In just a few weeks, the newly emboldened Democratic majority has moved to eliminate the budget surplus by expanding expensive telecommunications programs while imposing unnecessary tax increases on middle- and lower-class Virginians. Virginians are facing a swift, calculated wave of anti-business, anti-family and un-American policies that will irreparably destroy everything that makes Virginia great.

We Virginians are getting spoiled under Youngkin’s administration. For the past four years, Youngkin’s watchful eye has prevented the majority of Democrats in the Virginia Legislature from leading the community in a destructive direction.

Because of his leadership, Virginia is stronger than ever. Our country receives income records, tax exemption records, and investment records. Virginia’s general revenue grew 5.2% last year, with $9 billion in tax relief, $156 billion in capital investments, and a budget surplus of $2.7 billion. Youngkin left Virginia better than he found it, making our country better. But the higher you go, the harder you fall.

Now that Youngkin’s watch is up, that progress is under attack. In just a few weeks, the newly emboldened Democratic majority has moved to eliminate the budget surplus by expanding expensive telecommunications programs while imposing unnecessary tax increases on middle- and lower-class Virginians.

These policies will make life more affordable while creating new barriers to business entry, forcing Virginians to catch the rising cost of living or leave the commonwealth behind.

Democrats are advancing a sweeping tax plan that will make everyday life more expensive for working Virginians. For Virginia Democrats, “affordability” means imposing new taxes on dog grooming, counseling, auto and home maintenance, dry cleaning, event hosting and owning electric leaf blowers and lawn mowers. Their proposals would also authorize new local sales taxes and impose a delivery tax on services like Amazon, Uber Eats, FedEx and UPS, raising costs for families while providing nothing but big, government intervention.

While families are working day and night to make ends meet, Virginia Democrats are rewarding themselves. Their budget proposal includes i average 209% pay raise for state legislatorsshielding politicians from economic reality as they repeal Virginia’s right-to-work law and mandate a $15 minimum wage. Together, these policies will increase labor costs, eliminate jobs and leave workers with fewer opportunities.

At the same time, Democrats pursued a vicious attack on Virginians’ Second Amendment rights. Their bills would impose unprecedented taxes on guns and ammunition, layer on burdensome storage mandates and create massive barriers to both open and concealed carry on the commonwealth’s highways. These policies will not stop criminals. They will make it harder for law-abiding Virginians to protect themselves and their families.

Their transgressions do not end there. Virginia Democrats are actively working to rewrite the Virginia constitution.

VIRGINIA JUDGE RE-SENTENCES PUSH, RULES LEGISLATORS EXERCISE CONFIRMATION

Both the Virginia Senate and the House of Delegates, despite strong opposition from Republicans, voted to approve a constitutional amendment allowing abortion on demand until birth and to gerrymander Virginia’s congressional districts to cheat their way into Democrat rule for years to come. Despite recent defeats in lower courts, Democrats have vowed to continue defying procedural limits in their pursuit of power that violates Virginia’s values.

In just a few weeks, the newly emboldened Democratic majority has moved to eliminate the budget surplus by expanding expensive telecommunications programs while imposing unnecessary tax increases on middle- and lower-class Virginians.

Across the country, we’ve seen an exodus from California and New York City caused by hard-left policies, the same model that Spanberger wants to emulate. Looking at Gov. Gavin Newsom of the Democratic Alliance of California and the Mayor of the Democratic Alliance of New York Zohran Mamdani for inspiration but he refuses to accept the results of their policies, because he will never experience them.

It is the people of our great community who will bear that burden.

Spanberger and Virginia Democrats don’t want to implement commonsense policies that improve the lives of Virginians. As we have already seen in California and New York, their agenda will increase costs, discourage job growth, force families to relocate, drive out businesses and protect criminals.
