Gabourey Sidibe’s husband, Brandon Frankel, has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer

Gabourey Sidibeher husband, Brandon Frankeldiagnosed with stage I cancer.

“Things I never thought I’d post: I was diagnosed with Stage I Papillary Thyroid Cancer,” Frankel, 41, wrote on Instagram on Friday, February 20, alongside a series of hospital selfies. “I got it early because I pushed for an ultrasound that my doctor didn’t think I needed.”

He continued, “I refuse to ‘wait and see.’ I refuse to come back in 6-9 months. I made phone calls. I used the links. I’m in a hurry to cancel. I made a lot of noise. It worked.”

Frankel also revealed that he underwent surgery, “which went well.”

“I’m fine at the moment,” he explained on Friday. “Pathology showed aggressive cell type (long cells), so there is more monitoring to come. But, we caught it early. I’m very busy, so I can be there with my family.”

Sidibe, 42, and Frankel have been married since 2021. They welcomed twins Maya and Cooper in 2024.

“My wife carried our family through all of this, holding everything while I made appointments, surgery and recovery,” Frankel said. You are precious actor. “I don’t know how anyone does this without that kind of love and support, thank you, I’m lucky.”

According to Frankel, early detection and a health care plan may have saved his life.

“Here’s the sad truth: Early detection didn’t just save my life. “I had insurance. I had time. I had people who could help move things along quickly. Too many don’t have it.”

He continued, “Healthcare shouldn’t reward the loudest, the most connected, or the most financially secure. It shouldn’t require strategy, privileges and power just to feel safe. … Luck and means shouldn’t be the health care system. The system is broken. Health care should be a basic human right. PLEASE stand up for yourself, and get involved!”

Sidibe and Frankel started dating in 2019 after meeting on the dating app Raya.

“HAPPY 7TH VALENTINES DAY TO THE LOVE OF MY LIFE @gabbysidibe! Who would have thought that our first and only dates on a dating app would end up with a love story like this?” Frankel took to Instagram earlier this month, celebrating the popular holiday. “I’m so glad we found each other, and now we have a perfect little family together. … You’re the best mother, friend, partner and person I’ve ever met. You deserve the world, and I’ll do everything in my power to give it to you.”

Sidibe says the secret of their lasting marriage is due to “being good friends.

“My husband and I laugh together. He thinks I’m a very funny person. I think he’s a funny person, and we’re just friends,” Sibide said to himself. Us Weekly in March 2025. “Keep being best friends. Marry your best friend and just move on. Remember that your friendship is the most important part of your relationship.”

Sidibe also recommended raising children with her husband.

“It’s very exciting to see them grow up and become people,” she said at the time. “My daughter talks ‘cat’ a lot. We have two cats. She learned their names and my son is like that – adorable and cute. Yesterday, he stood up. They haven’t gone. He just hung there for about 40 seconds, and that was really fun to watch.”
