Danica McKellar Says She Loves the Taste of Her Placenta

Years of WonderDanica McKellar has opened up about eating her placenta after giving birth, revealing that she was “embarrassed” by her taste buds.

McKellar, 51, who played Winnie Cooper on the 1980s and 1990s TV series, shared her postpartum experience during an interview. Bobby Bones the second, March 10, episode of “The Bobby Bones Show” podcast.

“My doula said, ‘Do you want to taste the placenta?’ I had just given birth, and I said, ‘Sure.’ I mean you are out of your mind. He gave me a piece of it. Bobby, it was like the best filet mignon I’ve ever tasted. But more,” the former child star told Bones (real name Bobby Estell).

McKellar continued, “I was ashamed of how much I loved it. It was weird. I thought, ‘What is this, some kind of weird satanic … Am I a cannibal?’ [But] we are meant to have that.”

The actress is the mother of one child, son Draco, 15, who she shares with her ex-husband, music composer Mike Verta. (The two divorced in 2012 and McKellar is married to a lawyer Scott Sveslosky in 2014.)

According to a 2017 report published by US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention“Placenta drinking has recently been promoted among pregnant women for its physical and psychological benefits, although scientific evidence to support this is lacking.”

No research has publicly confirmed any health benefits, yet stars who have eaten their placentas include it Alicia Silverstone, Hilary Duff, Kim Kardashian again Mandy Moore – albeit in pill form.

McKellar’s reflection comes two months after she shared a makeup-free selfie on Instagram as she embraced her natural beauty.

“This is 51 years old! No makeup, no filters, forward light and a healthy lifestyle to look – and more importantly – *feel* the best I can,” she wrote alongside the photo on January 3. “Today, I spent time with family (confusing!), worked hard, took a cold dip in the ocean, and we’re about to eat more words than dinner. Today is blessed!

After McKellar’s rise to fame Years of Wonderthe actor expanded his small screen presence by appearing in The West Wing, How I Met Your Mother and several Hallmark films. He went on to write numerous educational children’s books including 2010’s “Hot X: Algebra Exposed!” and “Maths Don’t Give Up: How to Survive Year 6 to Year 9 Without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail.”
