Prime Day Kindle deals last chance: Pick up e-readers for $85

Content
Testing Kindles and e-readers is my job, but it’s also my passion. I use my Kindle Paperwhite every day – unless I’m checking out a new e-reader – and it accompanies me on many summer trips. So, while I spend a lot of time convincing Mashable readers to buy my favorite e-readers, I also keep track of the best times to buy one.
Today is the last day of Amazon Prime Day 2026, and the Kindle deals are holding strong. Several models have dropped prices, including the new Kindle Scribes. Also, Amazon is currently offering promotions on Kindle Unlimited, audio subscriptions, and Kindle books, so you can load up your new device for less.

Why we love you
The Base Kindle remains an excellent starter for people who are new to e-readers and don’t yet have a large digital library. While the basic Kindle hasn’t dropped from its all-time Prime Day price (previously it was $79.99), it still has a $25 discount that brings the price down to $84.99. Considering how long Amazon reviews last, that’s a great price for a device that will last for years to come.

Why we love you
My absolute favorite Prime Day Kindle deal is on the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition. It’s the e-reader I use every day, and it currently retails for $144.99. That makes it cheaper than the Paperwhite at full price, but also makes it the same price as the current Paperwhite without ads.
However, the Signature Edition is the most bang for your buck as it comes with double the storage, an auto-adjusting front light, and wireless charging. A unique deal and the lowest price for a new device ever.

When you buy a new e-reader, you need something to read on. Currently, Amazon offers three months of Kindle Unlimited for free. This subscription gives you unlimited access to millions of digital titles, magazines, and audiobooks. Normally $11.99 per month, this deal saves you about $36. Just remember that it will automatically renew at full price after three months if you don’t cancel.

If you’re more of a listener than a reader, Audible is matching the Kindle Unlimited deal by offering three months free for Prime members. Not only do you get to choose one audiobook to keep each month, but Amazon also throws in a bonus $20 audio credit to sweeten the deal. It automatically renews at $8.99 per month after the trial, but you can cancel anytime before that. This offer is valid until July 5.

How do Kindle prices compare to previous sales?
After following Kindle prices for years, I have a pretty good idea of how much Amazon’s e-readers cost on sale. So, how do Kindles work on this Big Day?
We tracked prices on the Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite over the past four sales to predict this year’s prices.

The Kindle Paperwhite’s lowest price ever was $124.99, which the device dropped on Black Friday, Prime Big Deals Days, and last year’s Prime Day. This year it’s back to $124.99. The Signature Edition, meanwhile, has hit a new low of $144.99, just $20 more for a boatload of extra features.
The deal I’m most disappointed with is the one for the basic Kindle, which was previously down to $79.99. This Big Day, it’s an extra $5 for $84.99. New deals this Big Day include the latest Kindle Scribe and Scribe Colorsoft, both receiving their first price drop since their release.
