Polls prove that NYers aren’t buying the Hochul-Trump excuse

To get a clue as to why Gov. Kathy Hochul is at her lowest point of the year, never mind her lame comments on Tuesday about Bruce Blakeman’s meeting with President Donald Trump.

His opponent will “continue to bow down” to the prez, shouted Hochul; “Blakeman is rolling at Trump’s feet – getting his orders to collect expenses,” the spokesman said.

Conversely, when he met with Trump, he boasted, his goal was “to try to find a way to find out [federal] the money is back.”

Huh? How is it that not “stabbing”?

And what happened was that Trump at that meeting pressured him to turn on the natural gas pipeline – which he did soon after.

That is, he received his “marching orders”. bring down cost – because that’s what the president’s plan is.

And of course, Nassau County under Blakeman is doing better than the state as a whole under Hochul.

It’s only good for New York when its leaders find ways to work with the president, as even Socialist Zohran Mamdani understands.

Yet Hochul seems to think his best path to re-election is to denounce Trump, as if he is the cause of all of New York’s problems.

New Yorkers aren’t buying that, which is why Siena’s poll found that only 41% of them give her a favorable rating, compared to 46%.

They realize that the Dems run the government here, and they’ve run New York as a one-party state for years.

However, more people think the government is on the wrong track (48%) than the right one (38%). Specifically:

  • In terms of “reducing crime,” 53% say the state is on the wrong track, compared to 38% who say the opposite.
  • On “creating affordable housing,” it’s 57%-31%, the wrong track.
  • “In dealing with the cost of living,” 67%-27%.

You certainly can’t blame voters on the cost issue: Last year’s US News ranking ranked New York as the 6th highest cost of living. Housing, energy costs and, of course, taxes in particular are going through the roof.

And when Hochul (when he was not preaching Orange Man Bad) says he is facing “insolvency,” he has already broken his pledge not to raise taxes three times this year – by suppressing the pied-à-terre tax, hitting businesses with R&D costs and OK’ing a new pension offer that will force local taxes to rise.

Also, Hochul still supports the country’s crazy weather law, which will raise prices (approx everything) even more so – although he has been trying to delay some of the pain until he is safely re-elected.

The voters are right: New York is definitely on the wrong track, and Trump didn’t put it there.

Too bad the woman who runs the Empire State is trying to pretend it’s her fault.
