The president of the International Olympic Committee sends love to Savannah Guthriewho withdrew from organizing the 2026 Winter Olympics amid the search for his mother, Nancy Guthrie.
“I want to say that our hearts and all our thoughts and prayers are with Savannah,” Kristy Coventry he said at the time of his appearance at the third hour of the month Today Friday’s show, February 13. “Savannah and a few of you had conversations with me last year, and what we’re thinking.”
Coventry told the Savannahs Today show colleagues, “We’re sending all our best wishes to you and obviously to the team here. We know it’s been hard, so I just wanted to let you know we’re all thinking of you.”
Describing Italy’s strength, Coventry said there had been “a lot of enthusiasm” throughout the Winter Olympics so far and “the athletes are doing amazingly well.”
“I am surrounded [positive] spirit every day,” he continued. “Seeing athletes who encourage each other, who have the compassion to go and hug each other, even if one of them did well and the other maybe didn’t do well…

“Savannah will not be joining us at the Olympics as she is focused on being with her family during this difficult time. Our hearts go out to her and the entire Guthrie family as the search for their mother continues,” a spokesperson told NBC Sports. Us Weekly in a statement on February 3. “We will share more information about our plans to host the Opening Ceremony in the near future.”
Terry Gannon again Mary Carillo were on the scene to kick off the Winter Olympics on February 6.
“That’s what it takes to bring you the Olympics, a team and we’re certainly without a very important, beloved member of our team tonight: Our friend and teammate Savannah Guthrie,” Gannon said while holding back tears during the opening ceremony. “He is greatly missed by everyone here.”
Carillo agreed, adding, “You’re sure, you’ve covered so many Olympics, right? And you love them. Right now, of course, Savannah and her family are in unspeakable, immeasurable pain. We know in the US that her extended family is an army. Savannah, my friend, it’s the same here.”

Us and confirmed on February 6 that Hoda Kotb adjusted his travel plans after being scheduled to cover the Olympics. Instead he has been filling Savannah in the Today show, stuck with Craig Melvin New York City.
As the search for Nancy continues, Savannah’s Today the family has been voicing their support, starting their daily broadcast with the latest updates on the case.
“Hoda will join us in the morning as one of us Today the family continues to navigate an undisclosed location, balancing updates on the search for Savannah’s mother with all the other news of the day, as we usually do,” Melvin told viewers on Monday, February 9. “But we know things are far from normal right now. So folks, we ask for your grace as we continue to do this.”
Kotb added that “Savannah and her family are our number one priority” but acknowledged that the team still has work to do. He emphasized that everyone on the morning show is sending “thoughts and prayers” to Savannah “24/7” while she is still living in Arizona.
Although the FBI has released photos of a person of interest, no suspects have been identified nearly two weeks after Nancy was reported missing.
