LARRY KUDLOW: Because We Never Trust Iran, That’s All the More Reason to Verify, Verify, Verify

FOX Business host Larry Kudlow discusses efforts to end the conflict in Iran on ‘Kudlow.’
Give at least a few cheers with coercive diplomacy, which means diplomacy with bombing. As the Prussian military scholar Carl von Clausewitz told us a few hundred years ago, “war is the continuation of politics,” or diplomacy, “by other means.”
Last week’s bombings may have finally pushed Iran and all its internal factions to at least sign a memorandum of understanding that represents at least the beginning of an end to the war.
President Trump is a master at coercive negotiation. He is also a master of psychological warfare negotiations with his threats to destroy Iran’s infrastructure, such as power, bridges, water, etc.. He even kept the island of Kharg, the pinnacle of Iran’s energy industry, in play again.
The full text of the memo could arrive by the end of the week with an official signing ceremony, as Mr. Trump said today at the G-7 meeting in France.
After the Trump Iran Deal opened up the Strait of Hormuz, the market rally and oil hit a 3-month low. Brian Brenberg, Dagen McDowell, Taylor Riggs, and David Bahnsen discuss the economic implications, the medium term, and business investment.
When asked by the reporter “when will the text of the MOU be released,” Mr. Trump replied: “I think that soon I will say, I mean, I want it released because it’s a very powerful document. It’s not like the Obama document, which was just a terrible document. This is a very powerful document and I want it released. So probably soon, I’ll say after a while, after the opening of the Straits.”
And while we await all the details, it seems that the president is keeping all his promises to the American people. And, for that matter, to the defeated and surrendering Iranians. They may never admit their dedication, but they do.
Mr. Trump said there are no nuclear weapons in Iran, and that is in the deal. He said that nuclear enriched uranium must be removed from Iran or completely destroyed. White House sources maintain that is in the agreement.
He promised the reopening of free navigation of the Strait of Hormuz without Iranian tolls, and that is in the agreement. Here’s what the president said today about Iranian nukes, also from the G-7 in France: “the main thing is that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. They fully agree with that with a strong police force, and they will not have a nuclear weapon, which is what it was, because they probably would have used it if they had.”
Now Mr. Trump also said there is no money on Iran unless they completely change their behavior. And there will be solid performance metrics for all these Trumpian red lines. Here again, here is the president earlier today on this point.
Mr. Trump was asked by a reporter if the deal “will include any relief from sanctions on Iran?” and if so, “when will that go into effect?”
The president replied: “No it’s not possible. Yes, it should be. It’s really a moral thing. If they do what they’re supposed to do, that starts working.”
Now all the management people keep talking about verification. Confirm, confirm, confirm.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, discusses concerns over the NFL’s high broadcast costs and President Donald Trump’s announcement that the Iran deal is over on ‘Varney & Co.’
I understand in all these areas the devil is in the details of the work required to execute this memorandum of understanding. Everything that needs to be worked on.
We all know that Iran has no credibility on any of these points. That’s why I don’t think anyone can say the war is over. However, I will correct Ronald Reagan, we never trust Iran. And that’s all the more reason why we must verify, verify, and verify.
I also realize that Israel, our greatest ally and military ally, may still have a lot of work to do to secure its freedom.
However, let’s step back for a moment, and see that Mr. Trump has crushed Iran militarily with Epic Fury. Mr Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have crushed Iran financially in an economic frenzy. And a special mention to our United States Navy for its iron door blockade of Iranian ports.
Many former presidents insulted Iran. But no one has done what Mr. Trump to stop the horrible, satanic, evil, strict Islamic laws made by Mr. No one.
And that’s why I believe that people of good faith who want to see freedom really come to the middle east should support the Trumpian memorandum of understanding and turn that into a real, verifiable agreement.
