Perry, 41, responded to her engagement to ex-boyfriend Groban in a sweet TikTok video on Monday, May 11. The clip included a screenshot of Groban, 45, and McQueen, 36, along with a note about their relationship news. Perry then appeared in a green screen effect, wearing a white dress with her hair tied up as she poured a drink into a glass until it overflowed.
The “Firework” singer had a sad look on her face as she did the “cheers” move, took a deep breath and pretended to cry.
Perry set the video for his 2010 hit “The One That Got Away,” a song inspired by Groban.
“Congratulations 🥂,” he wrote in the caption.
Perry and Groban briefly dated in 2009. Years later, he revealed that he wrote “The One That Got You” about his ex.
“Guys, who is ‘The One Who Got Away’? That’s Groban,” he said during an interview with him in 2017. James Corden. “He’s one of my best friends.”
Later, Groban reacted to the revelation during an appearance Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.
“I didn’t expect that,” he said at the time. “That made me double-take and spit out my coffee when I saw that. It’s very nice of him to say that. It made me very happy. But I was also very surprised.”
Groban also questioned Perry’s claim that he was the inspiration for the song.
“I’m listening to the lyrics. And I’m like, ‘I’ve never had a Mustang. I don’t have a tattoo. Are you sure that’s about me?'” he laughed.
Reflecting on his relationship with Perry, Groban added, “We were both very private and we realized we were better as friends and we’ve been best friends to this day. He’s the best.”

Groban announced his engagement to McQueen on April 21.

Although Perry laments her relationship with Groban as she takes the next step with McQueen, she has moved on from their romance. Following her separation from her ex-husband Orlando Bloom last year, Perry began dating the former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.
“He is very happy,” said the source Us Weekly of Perry and Trudeau, 54, in October 2025. “He tries to keep it low-key, and they spend a lot of private time together.”
