Is Trent Star Talking About Final Death After Scott Foley’s Exit

Will Trent ended its fourth season with a shocking death after the show lost a cast member.
On the Tuesday, May 5, episode of ABC’s hit series, Angie (Erika Christensen) finally gave birth but her happiness was short-lived because her husband, Seti (Scott Foley), died after collapsing in hospital.
“It is what it is Game of Thrones out here,” Iantha Richardsonwho plays the role of Faith, joked during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly. “I don’t know if death is imminent in this program [but] I hope not.”
Richardson, 35, recalled how he felt when he heard of Seth’s death, adding, “It puts people in a good mood for the next season of what’s to come. So there’s a lot to look forward to.”
Despite the potential on-screen growth, Richardson admitted how “hard” it is to see the cast leave the show.
“Losing people like that certainly keeps you on your toes. No one expected to lose one person – let alone two – from the very different types of what the show has. But losing two in a three-week period is torture over and over again,” he noted. “What is expected is emotional turmoil. I don’t know what it means but I hope it is not. I know that there is a big emotional breakdown that will happen next season.”
Based on the book by Karin Slaughter, Will Trent follows a special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation who was abandoned at birth and raised in Atlanta’s troubled foster care system. Will (Ramon Rodríguez) now relies on his unique vision while pursuing justice, resulting in a high approval rating at the GBI.
In addition to Rodríguez, the show stars Richardson, Christensen, Jake McLaughlin, Sonja Sohn again Kevin Daniels. Season 4 thrilled viewers when Sohn’s character, Amanda, was killed off after being on the show from the beginning.
“I’m not comfortable in any position because you never know, but I don’t think so [a possible death for Faith] he’s at the forefront of my mind,” Richardson said Us about his personal reaction to the exit of many actors within the matter of weeks. “I don’t think that will happen. But who knows. If it’s meant to be for Will Trent’s greatest benefit I’m sure there will be a great reason behind it and everything will work out for the best. But I hope not.”
Looking ahead, Richardson expressed his excitement about the possible storyline in season 5. He pondered how Will and Angie would raise his child – while living together again – they would play the whole team.
“I think it feels very united. We don’t know what will happen next season but we are working on a family level. This child lost his father and even though Will and Angie get their things, he always needs other hands,” said the actor. “I would hope that Faith would step in and be like, ‘Give me the baby.’ We will figure it all out together.”
Richardson also teased how the show will get back to basics, saying, “I’m very excited about the sex trafficking case. I think that’s very timely and tasteless. It’s something that needs to be highlighted because I don’t think a lot of people know – as it’s been talked about – the ins and outs of it. There’s something that needs to be talked about.”
He continued: “Having my character is something [to] chew in that environment, I am very happy. Especially as a Black woman, most of these situations are from young Black girls from what I read. … If we go among you, we can find a person of faith to match with and that would be very good. I would like to see that because you need a successful love story.”
Speaking of romance, Richardson spoke to Us about the surprising — and surprising — support of Faith and Ormewood (McLaughlin).
“I was very surprised because there is something different that I really enjoy. There is something like platonic love with someone who is completely different from you,” he explained about his hopes for the two. “Your soul takes the opposite of what I do but you’re a great person. I don’t know if this will work in romance and I think you know enough – if it’s his circumstances – to know that.”
Richardson wondered if viewers would find it “difficult to separate” platonic energy from romantic love.
“There are so many kinds of friendships and relationships and love that we have in this life, I love that this is part of his journey,” he added. “I think it should be platonic. That’s just the right aspect of his relationship at work.”
To answer Us‘ commenting on how Ormewood considered Faith guilty of new interest, Richardson quipped that McLaughlin needed to “put it down.”
“He’s a great player and he’s amazing. We always have this conversation with us,” he concluded. We’re both like, ‘Yeah, keep them as friends.’
Will Trent has been renewed for season 5 and is currently streaming on Hulu.
