Mother Stabbed to Death by Unknown Person at Virginia Bus Stop, Police Say

A Virginia mother was stabbed to death by an unknown assailant inside a Fairfax County bus shelter, police have confirmed.

The Fairfax County Police Department said in a press release that officers responded to the bus stop at Richmond Highway and Arlington Drive in Hybla Valley at 7:16 p.m. on February 23 to investigate a death.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a 41-year-old man Stephanie Nicole Minter inside a bus stop with multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Police began performing life-saving measures as they waited for fire crews and rescuers to arrive. However, they could not save Minter, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives have launched an investigation into her death and are using surveillance footage and witness interviews to identify them Abdul Jalloh as the last person seen with the victim, according to police. Investigators said Minter and Jalloh, 32, were seen getting off the bus at the same time before they were stabbed to death.

Authorities have not said whether Minter and Jalloh knew each other before the incident.

After Jalloh was named a person of interest in the case, police responded to a suspicious person call in Woodlawn on February 24 at 4:01 pm after an employee at a nearby business saw Jalloh and contacted police. The police found him and connected him to the crime reported in the morning, and he was arrested and charged with fraud.

However, the police said in a press release that detectives concluded that Jalloh was responsible for Minter’s death and obtained a warrant to charge him with murder.

He remains in custody without bond, and it is not yet clear whether he has filed a plea or received legal representation.

The police also did not come out publicly if they believed that Jalloh had a reason to kill Minter.

The Department of Public Security issued a statement on Monday March 2 explaining that Jalloh entered the United States illegally in 2012 and was in the country without legal status. Immigration and Customs Enforcement released the detainee on February 25, and DHS said it received a final order to be removed from the United States in 2020.

Minter’s deceased revealed that she was the mother of one named son Caden Montague. Loved ones described him as a “happy, cheerful person, full of love and praise for his loved ones” and “a ray of light in dark places,” according to the obituary. Minter’s family members also wrote that his death was “a loss felt by all the family and many friends.”

“Stephanie will be greatly missed, as the world will have missed that ray of light that we know so well,” said the report. “Although he has taken new wings, the beauty he brought to this world will remain forever in our hearts.”
