Together, the US-Israeli strikes against Iran in the early hours of Saturday, key military and nuclear facilities were targeted inside the country.
The strikes focused on what US officials described as high-value Iranian targets, including command and control facilities for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), naval assets and underground facilities believed to be related to Iran’s nuclear program.
In addition, Iranian air defenses, missile and drone launch sites, and military airfields were also targeted, according to officials.
Israeli forces have targeted sites linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, a senior Israeli official confirmed to Fox News.
President Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Khamenei was killed in the strike. He is among the top 40 Iranian security and government officials killed in the attack, an Israeli official told Fox News.

“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead,” Trump said in a Truth Social post. “This is not just justice for the people of Iran, but for all the great Americans, and those people from many countries around the world, who have been killed or maimed by Khamenei and his band of bloodthirsty THUGS.”
He also said that the IRGC wants immunity from the US

The strikes were escalated because of “opportunity targeting,” multiple sources told Fox News, which is why the strikes took place in broad daylight in Iran, keeping the surprise. “There was a deliberate decision to speed up the timeline,” another source said.
The campaign, which Trump described last night from Mar-a-Lago as the start of “major combat operations” in the region, includes multi-regional targets in an effort to reduce Iran’s defense capabilities.

Trump said the campaign aimed to destroy Iran’s military, dismantle its nuclear program, and called on the Iranian people to “take over” their government.
Tomahawk cruise missiles were used in the first strikes of the operation, called Operation Epic Fury, and one-way attack drones were used for the first time, according to a US official.
