Tell me a lie is over for now – but the cast already has ideas for a spinoff.
Before the season 3 finale airs on Tuesday, February 17, creator Meaghan Oppenheimer confirmed that the hit Hulu series has come to an end. Us Weekly he spoke to Grace Van Patten, Jackson White and more about the possibilities for the next shows after Stephen (White) leaves Lucy (Van Patten) in pursuit of another reconciliation.
“Is Lucy out for revenge? Maybe she’s finding herself,” Van Patten, 29, suggested for the new storyline. “We have enough revenge.”
White was on the same page about trying something new if Tell me a lie extended by another thread. But while White, 29, hasn’t seen another Stephen-centric show, she was determined to keep it in the family.
“It’s called ‘Norah From Bayville.’ my mother, [Katey Sagal]and it’s his plan,” he puffs on a cigarette, and goes to the store to eat with his children.
Elsewhere in the finals, Wrigley’s (Homes in Spencer) secretly dating Bree (Cat Missal) came from her marriage to Evan (Brandon Cook). The Missal is signed Us‘ proposal for a spinoff focusing on the trio – called “the next toxic love triangle” – while Cook sees a show where Evan “finds love” again with someone new. (Probably Evan’s ex Molly – played by Cook’s fiancee, Katherine Hughes?)
House, on the other hand, had more humor, suggesting, “I think Wrigley’s just a car salesman who used to work or something and we’re just following him.”
The only people who managed to be marked safe from Stephen’s reign of terror in the finale were Pippa (Sonia Mena) and Diana (Alicia Crowder) – and the cast would love the power to return for more.
Mena stood up to see Pippa and Diana’s “bad season”, while Crowder added, “I think Diana is going to law school and getting an undergrad. Then we can see how they find each other down the road.”
Based on Carola Lovingthe novel of the same name, Tell me a lie aired for three seasons on Hulu. Oppenheimer confirmed on Monday, February 16, that it was his decision to end the program.
“After three amazing seasons of Tell Me Lies, tonight’s episode will be the series finale. This was the finale for my writing team and I thought about it, and we’re proud of it,” she wrote on Instagram. “Your overwhelming response to this season prompted us to explore whether there was another way to continue the story, but in the end we felt it had reached its natural conclusion.”
He concluded: “My main goal has always been to protect the quality of the show and give you the best experience I can give you. So, while it’s nice to leave something that was such a fun experience, I’m very grateful that we were able to tell a complete story with an intentional ending – it’s a privilege that very few shows get. Thank you for loving our show. We’re excited to bring you the future.”
Oppenheimer talked to him before Us about why it makes sense to end the story in season 3.
“Regarding future seasons, it’s impossible to really know yet,” Oppenheimer said only. Us in January. “Of course I always thought this was the end I had in mind.”
Oppenheimer didn’t rule out a return either way, adding, “But you never know what’s going to happen next. But there’s a sense in which I didn’t want to leave anything out this season. Basically, I wanted to satisfy everyone.”
