Kamala Harris is secretly milking California taxpayers to fund her book tour — but that could change

Kamala Harris’ taxpayer-funded security will be stripped in November if Steve Hilton wins the gubernatorial race, the Republican has vowed.

The former vice president sparked outrage when it emerged on Tuesday that he was being followed by the California Highway Patrol on his book tour.

Harris got Joe Biden to sign an executive order to continue his government’s security measures in July of this year, but Trump ended it in September. The state of California then stepped in and granted him immunity.

Hilton told the Post newspaper that if he wins the race for governor at the end of this year, it will be taken away from him again, calling it “free corruption.”

He said: “Kamala Harris’ book tour is clearly part of her presidential campaign.

“This is another example of the Democratic Alliance political machine stealing taxpayers’ money from their bottomless pit of waste, fraud and abuse. We are sick of it. As governor, I will immediately cancel this corrupt action by Kamala.

“Our brave CHP police have enough to deal with the crime wave of the Democrats without following the trail after the failure and political rejection that you can’t bear to get out of the light.”

Dozens of police officers have been out on the streets since September to cover up the failed presidential candidate as he travels across the country and overseas to promote the memoir.

The union representing CHP officers told the Post it had been informed of the security but had no knowledge of the surrounding details.

A spokesperson said in a statement: “The California Highway Patrolmen’s Association is aware of the recent interest in former Vice President Kamala Harris and her security detail for the California Highway Patrol, involving union members.

“Because CAHP does not know the exact amount of resources (numbers of union members working to protect), including costs, we are not qualified to comment on the staffing or budget pressures (if any) it has caused.”

State officials have not disclosed the number of officers assigned to Harris or the total number of taxpayer dollars spent on his security — but a retired CHP official said it will be “significant.”

“What I do know is that it’s a lot, it’s a lot of money,” Republican Assemblyman Tom Lackey, who spent 28 years as a member of the CHP, told KCRA.

“We’re living in an unstable environment right now, and it’s really hard to predict situations and people’s behavior, so you deserve that kind of protection,” added Lackey.

He said that as California’s attorney general, Harris had the right to be protected by law enforcement officers in the event of credible threats, as mandated by state law.

But a Secret Service intelligence assessment found no concrete evidence of a threat to Harris. The former VP released his debut album, “107 Days,” with a 15-city tour that began in New York City on September 24.

The book details his brief 2024 presidential campaign after President Biden withdrew from the race.

This tour hit major cities including Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, DC, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, Portland, Nashville and Miami, continuing to Toronto and even London.

After selling out his 2025 tour dates, Harris added 18 more in 2026, starting in New Orleans on January 13 and ending in Anaheim on April 10.
