Euphoria’s Nika King Talks About Season 3 Screen Time Cuts

The Sunday, May 17, episode of HBO’s hit series, Rue (Zendaya) received a surprise phone call from his mother, Leslie (King). Much of the conversation was seen from Rue’s perspective as she talked to her mother about trying to make better choices and being fed up with the mess she found herself in.

The camera then pans briefly to show Leslie on the phone with Rue. Leslie had one line where she told Rue she loved her before the show focused on the main character.

King, 47, took to Instagram to talk about the decline in his chatter after recalling filming much of the show’s back-and-forth conversation.

“I just watched the episode I’ve been promoting all week — and the mom here is making me laugh!” King laughed before adding that his mother laughed at him because “the internet has been waiting all this time [her] to say just one line.”

King added: “You better be glad I have a sense of humor. You better be glad I have a thick skin.”

Short scenes marked the first appearance of the King Euphoria from 2022. Euphoria, which premiered in 2019, originally followed troubled high school student Rue as she struggled to stay sober after rehab. The HBO series was immediately renewed for a second season after its premiere, but it took almost three years for the episodes to air.

Season 3, meanwhile, was slated to air on HBO in 2025 before facing several obstacles, including a creator. Sam Levinsonhis commitment to the short-lived series The Idol. Two strikes by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, which occurred in late 2023, extended the delay.

“Season 3 is coming out. I don’t know. Don’t ask me. I don’t know. It’s one of those things,” King said during the stand-up show in March 2024. “People are like, ‘We need a season 3.’ I’m like, ‘Nondindwa, I need season 3. I haven’t paid my rent in six months.’ And Zendaya is in Paris for Fashion Week. I say, ‘Bitch, come home! I need you! Mom needs you!’”
