DoorDash is a tactic South American crime gangs use to attack homes in LA

Many members of gangs in South America were finally brought down by the police, accused of using the trick of delivering people to break into people’s homes in Los Angeles.

Following a string of residential burglaries in LA, seven gang members – including four Colombian nationals are accused of robbing unsuspecting homeowners across LA by pretending to work for delivery services.

Police say the burglars used tools from delivery companies such as Amazon, DoorDash and UberEats to gain entry into people’s homes.

LA District Attorney, Nathan Hochman, revealed some of the things police said were used, including the red DoorDash bag, and tools to break into people’s homes if they find someone is not there, during a press conference on Wednesday.

“Because what we’ve seen and one of the ways that these individuals are using more often, is that they’re going to come up with a DoorDash wallet,” Hochman said.

However, it doesn’t have to be DoorDash. It could be UberEats, it could be any kind of delivery, Amazon delivery. “

“And they get these fake signals. They come from a camera that rings. They’ll push the doorbell or ring the camera and they’ll say it’s from DoorDash.”

“They are trying to see if there is one house, because usually they will point to houses that are empty,” added Hochman.

Police said gang members will arrive at these homes “prepared and ready for any situation.”

That included whether they were able to find an open door or window to get to the first or second floor.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna introduced camouflaged hidden cameras and a “jammer,” a device “suspects carry to jam your camera system and other cloud-connected wi-fi devices,” Luna said.

During the investigation, detectives found US currency, jewelry, a luxury bag, a Wi-Fi jamming device, gloves and other burglary tools.

Those arrested include Kevin Diaz from Chile, Owen Rivera Chacon, Christopher Sanchez and Edison Bioka. Each person faces separate charges related to the alleged burglary.

Hochman sent a message to other South American gang members who want to come here and commit crimes.

“If you want to come here and break into our homes, if you want to come in here and terrorize and torture our families, let me assure you that you will spend time in our jails and prisons,” said Hochman.

“Because you will be arrested, prosecuted and punished.”
