Chris Brown Calls Out Zara Larsson In Response To Album Criticism

You may have heard that Chris Brown just released his 12th solo album, and the critics are not loving it.
The album, titled Brownit received a really bad 1.3 out of 10 from Pitchfork, and in the accompanying review, writer Alphonse Pierre put it simply: “This album is a real piece of shit.”
Chris has been in the music industry for over 20 years now, and in that time, he has built up an extensive history of troubled behavior and alleged abuse, starting in 2009 when he pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna, injuring her so badly that she had to be hospitalized.
Chris’ behavior in the past is not something he has held back from his music, and music. Brown Reviewing for Pitchfork, Pierre writes that the “soulless, hit-chasing” new album “has no ideas that have nothing to do with being a victim of its star.”
“Even on tracks that seem like intimate glimpses of him in his relationship he’s actually complaining about the media,” the review continued. “For years, the mainstream media has been talking about the popularity of Chris Brown, and in reality, that’s not benefiting anyone but him. The lack of critical engagement with his music has allowed him to measure his redemption with statistics and sob stories… Not every music legend deserves to be a martyr.”
Being the controversial person that Chris is, Pitchfork’s glowing review caught people’s attention. The article currently has over 93,000 likes and 10.4 million views on X alone, and many people seem to agree with its sentiments.
Now, it seems that Chris is holding his breath Brown criticism, and he tells us how he feels about it.
In an elaborate video posted on her Instagram Story, the 37-year-old began by addressing her devoted fans. “Team Breezy, I know people want me to come in here and, you know, say sad things, but play it,” he said. “We’re kicking ourselves, goddammit. We’re not giving in. I put my foot on their neck and we’re not stopping. You heard? We’re doing this whore. Tour, more shit to come. I won’t tell you what’s to come, but it’s coming.”
Chris didn’t specifically mention the viral review, even though he had some very pointed words for his haters. “I don’t understand what is being said,” he said. “I know exactly who my fans are and I know exactly who is listening to this album.”
He concluded: “If you’re not a fan of mine, I don’t want you listening to my shit. Go listen to mother fuckin’ Zara Larsson or somebody.
If you’re wondering what our girl Zara has to do with this, she’s been criticizing Chris for a long time. Recently, the Swedish star told Cosmopolitan that his music is “blocked” from his playlist. “There are so many artists I’ve blocked on Spotify, and they’re all abusers,” he said during an interview in February. “Of course you wouldn’t get it, like a Chris Brown song.”
So, it’s safe to say that Chris’s Instagram story caused a lot of reactions, and people called it a “normal crash.”
Also, regarding Zara’s subpoena, I think it may have backfired. Fans have started comparing Chris and Zara’s streaming numbers and album reviews, and it’s safe to say that Zara is coming out on top right now.
“Trust me Shit Brown….We listen to Zara Larsson,” wrote another user, who pointed out that Zara currently has more monthly Spotify listeners than Chris.
Currently, Chris’ album will be No. 5 on the Billboard 200, so I guess someone is listening. But if you don’t feel like doing that, you can read the full Pitchfork review here. It might be more fun.
Zara has yet to directly respond to Chris’ video. But we will let you know if there is.
