MMA Fighter Reveals Next Steps

Ronda Rousey it’s gotten him back into the MMA triangle — and he’s ready to take on his next challenge.

After defeating his retired colleague Gina Carano just 17 seconds into the post on Saturday, May 16, at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, Rousey, 39, revealed what she plans to do after her big win.

“I said, ‘You’re my hero and thank you for everything and thank you for bringing me home,'” Rousey told an inside reporter about what she said to her opponent after the fight on Netflix.

“It was too fast – is there any chance we could see more of this?” asked the reporter. “I think everybody wants to see you guys compete. You looked great, you’re dominating out there. Listen to this crowd, look at the way you’ve been since you’ve been back in MMA. Is there any chance we can leave that door a little bit open?”

Rousey responded quickly, explaining to the reporter and the crowd that she couldn’t think of a better way to leave the sport forever.

“There is no way I could have ended better than this,” he said. “I want to have more children and I have to cook.”

Rousey retired from the sport of MMA in 2016 after consecutive losses to other fighters. Holly Holm again Amanda Nunes. After retiring, Rousey married a former UFC star Travis Browne in 2017. In 2021, the couple welcomed their first daughter, La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō, followed by their second daughter, Liko’ula Pā’ūomahinakaipiha, in 2025. (Brown also shares two sons, Kaleo and Keawe, with a former partner.)

Rousey announced her surprise return to MMA in February, officially ending her nearly ten-year retirement.

“We’ve been waiting a long time to announce this: Gina Carano and I are going down in the biggest fight in the history of women’s combat sports!” he said in a statement at the time. “And we’re partnering with the MVP of the first fight and the biggest and baddest broadcaster in the world Netflix. This is for all MMA fans past, present and future. More to come… much more.”

Carano, 44, said a much-anticipated dream match against Rousey was the only promise enough to bring her out of her 17-year retirement.

“Ronda came to me and said there’s only one person she’s going to come back to and it’s her dream to make this fight happen between us,” Carano said in February. “Thank you for opening doors for her in her career and being respectful in asking for this fight to happen. This is an honor. I believe I will come out of this fight with a win, and I expect it won’t be easy, which I accept. This is as much for me and Ronda as it is for the fans and the karate community. What a time to live.”
