California Chevron signs blame Dems for fuel prices

Chevron has been charged with driving California’s gas prices the highest in the nation – and they’re not afraid to let drivers know.
The giant says the blame lies with the Democrats who run the country — not President Donald Trump — and they’re telling drivers at the gas station ahead of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
“Sacramento’s policies did this. Now you pay more,” signs read at pumps across California, paid for by the oil giant, showing a blue SUV stuck in a gas line for a tap.
“California politicians prefer foreign oil and gas over local jobs and lower costs.”
Now drivers are making videos of the signs, comparing them to the prices at the Chevron station they fill up at, and one showing regular gas is $6.49 a liter and premium is $6.69.
The average price of gas in America on Thursday is $4.564, according to AAA.
Chevron’s comes ahead of the three-day Memorial Day weekend when drivers in LA and across the state continue to deal with crazy gas prices.
As of Thursday, the average price in the Golden State is $6.143 a gallon, according to AAA.
As travelers hit the road today in record numbers, the price of a gallon of gas nationwide rose $1.38 more than it did this time last year, per AAA.
Ross Allen, a spokesman for Chevron, confirmed that these signs came from the company.
“We’re trying to educate consumers about how politicians pick their pockets,” Allen told The Post.
“These environmental costs, taxes, and regulations may be small individually, but collectively they make the cost of living in California more expensive. These are policy choices, they don’t have to be this way.”
And judging by comments on social media, the signs are starting to have an impact on California drivers – with many reporting that they’ve seen the issue.
“Yes Chevron has been posted for a while in North San Diego. 3 different signs,” wrote one person.
The post included shots of three signs, including the one mentioned above.
Another said “About 25% of your gas bill goes to state taxes and fees.” T
Another said: “California has the highest taxes and gas costs in America.”
“Chevron has used these signs for months across the state to highlight California’s unique burdens such as high excise taxes (over 60 cents/gallon), trading fees, low Carbon Fuel Standard costs, and refinery shutdowns under strict regulations,” wrote another person.
The post also included a photo of the sign from above that was just a little too small.
In recent years, several major refineries in California have closed or begun the process of closing, driving up gasoline prices in California.
Lawmakers and experts have warned the green plan of Gov. Gavin Newsom is now at risk of sending the price of a gallon above $8 per liter.
Drivers in the Golden State pay a “California fee” that includes higher-than-average state tax and sales taxes, as well as hefty fees for the state’s unique climate plans.
