Frank Martin Keeps Coming Feb. 21 Vs Nahir Albright

While most of the mainstream narrative still hangs on his 2024 loss to Gervonta Davis, Martin has begun a plan to move past that defeat.

Martin continues his comeback after the December win

Last December, Martin reminded the boxing world of his ceiling by stopping veteran Rances Barthelemy in the fourth round. That performance proved he can carry his power in the upper weight class while answering quick questions about his attitude. However, defeating the 40-year-old Barthelemy is a straightforward task. Handling a small, non-stop high-volume grinder like the Albright is a completely different challenge, making this super lightweight secondary the place where the real experimentation begins.

Albright is a Philadelphia native who carries the Philly Tough reputation in the ring. Representing the Philadelphia Smoke gym, he specializes in the kind of pressure that can be a nightmare for professional southpaws. Albright focuses on making fights worse by reducing distance and forcing opponents into physical exchanges that drain the gas tank.

“Francis Barthelemy is old. He’s done. He’s done. We expected Frank to do that,” Albright coach Rashiem Jefferson Sr. told YSM Sports Media, downplaying Frank Martin’s victory over Barthelemy last December.

For Martin, the tactical challenge is clear. His success has always depended on the time chosen and the ability to maintain separation. Against Davis, that pressure eventually broke his rhythm and led to a stoppage in the eighth round. While Martin looked sharp against Barthelemy, he now has to prove that he can keep a young runner like Albright on his chest. Handling a swarmer without sacrificing ground is a necessary skill for any title contender at 140 pounds.

Albright comes in as a dangerous underdog who has proven he can hang with top prospects. He pushed Keyshawn Davis to a narrow majority decision in 2023. Although that score was later changed to a no-hitter, the fight proved that Albright has a big engine. Defeating a name like Martin would put him in the rankings and immediately disrupt any comeback plans the Ghost has in store.

“Woo is coming off that win with everything behind him. I think Woo is on a high horse and we’re going to get the job done,” Jefferson said of Albright’s confidence after his victory over Kelvin Davis last June.

This match is more than just another day on the calendar. It represents the main road for Martin, who must be there to prove that his transition to super lightweight is complete and that he is among the elite of this division like Richardson Hitchins or Jose Ramirez. A loss or a hard-fought, narrow victory would suggest that the blueprint left behind in Davis’ fight remains a problem. Martin cannot look too vulnerable on stage if he intends to remain part of a full and dangerous group.
