Bodycam: American Idol Alum Weeps After Wife Dies Before Arrest

Husband of Ashley Flynn was caught crying and visibly inconsolable after she was killed in their Ohio home — before he was named the prime suspect and arrested in her death, according to police surveillance footage.

Caleb C. Flynn39, is charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of tampering with evidence in connection with the shooting of his wife, according to court records. Us Weekly previously reported.

Ashley, 37, was found shot to death in her and Caleb’s home in Tipp City on the morning of Feb. 16 after police were called to a reported burglary, authorities said.

Body camera footage released by the Tipp Township Police Department on Monday, March 2, shows Caleb’s immediate reaction to Ashley’s death when officers were on the scene.

In the picture, Caleb seems to be heartbroken, where he can be heard crying and crying. Sometimes he can be heard retreating.

While on the phone with Ashley’s mother, Caleb is heard saying: “Ashley’s gone … Ashley’s gone.”

“He’s gone, someone broke in and shot him,” he was heard saying when he called.

Then he told his mother-in-law that “the police are there, they said no one is coming into the house, they said I can call you.”

Afterwards, bodycam footage captures Caleb going out to meet his mother-in-law, who arrives outside the home.

The two are hugging and crying, according to the photo. “I don’t understand,” Ashley’s mother is heard saying.

While referring to him and Ashley’s two daughters, the video captures Caleb saying, “The girls don’t know, the girls are sleeping.”

“I don’t know what to do,” he said again, according to the footage. “I don’t know what to do either,” Ashley’s mother said as she hugged her again and cried, the video shows.

Caleb, who once appeared as a contestant on the reality show American Idolwas arrested in Ashley’s death on February 19, according to police.

He pleaded not guilty during his trial the following day, February 20.

Caleb is represented by L. Patrick Mulliganwho told you before Us via email that Caleb “looks forward to defending this case.”

“We are both disappointed and concerned about the short timeline and seeming rush to judgment in this case,” added Mulligan. “If the government runs out of leads or is unable to develop a lead and look for a partner who is still alive in cases like these, the chances of wrongful convictions increase.”

Before Ashley’s death, she worked as a substitute teacher and volleyball coach at Tippecanoe Middle School, according to Tipp City Schools, Us previously reported. He has also taught in the village school.

Caleb and Ashley were members of the Christian Life Center in Butler Township, where Caleb once worked as a music teacher, Dayton Daily News report.

While working as a music teacher, he appeared American Idol in the 12th season of the show in 2013, according to the newspaper.

While on the show, he expressed his love for Ashley, the newspaper reported.

“Ashley lived her life as the hands and feet of Jesus,” reads a GoFundMe page set up to support her daughters after her death. “Her laugh was contagious. She was a wonderful motivator who loved people deeply. She was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, and a beloved daughter, sister and friend.”
