Amanda Seyfried hired a bodyguard after backlash over Charlie Kirk’s comments

Amanda Seyfried feared for her life after calling the late Charlie Kirk “hateful” last year.

In an interview with British GQ, the actor – who sparked outrage with his comments shortly after Kirk was killed in September 2025 – revealed that he hired a bodyguard for security.

“A, I’m allowed to express my feelings, and B, I do it in a way that’s not unkind,” she told the outlet. “But there’s a lot of fear and hatred and wanting to insult and tear down. And I’ve experienced a very small part of that.”

“I want my children to feel safe to express their opinions as long as they are safe,” he continued. “So I said, ‘What do I do? What do I say?’ And then all of a sudden I find myself with a f—ing security guard at the airport and I’m like, ‘This is crazy.’

After the backlash in September, Seyfried wrote on Instagram: “We are forgetting the nuance of humanity. I can be angry about sexism and racism and AND I totally agree that the killing of Charlie Kirk was completely disturbing and sad in every way imaginable.”

“No one should have to face this level of violence,” he added. “This country is dealing with the tragedy of so many senseless deaths and violence and shootings. Can we at least agree on that?”

In his words of the post, he appeared to him talk about his previous argumenthe wrote, “I don’t want to add fuel to the fire. I just want to be able to explain something carelessly (but understandably) taken out of context. Spirited talk – isn’t that what we should have?”

Shortly after backtracking, Seyfried doubled down and said she would not apologize for calling Kirk “hateful.”

Talking to “Who’s Wearing WhatIn an interview published in December, the “Mean Girls” actress spoke about the anger she faced but refused to back down from what she said earlier.

“I don’t want to apologize for that,” Seyfried said. “I mean, for f—‘s sake, I commented on one thing. I said something that was based on real truth and real pictures and real quotes. What I said was incredibly true, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course. Thank God for Instagram. I was able to clarify something, and it was about reclaiming my voice because I felt like it was stolen what people did, and it’s a recycled text.”

He added how he must remember to “keep [her] move on” about politics.

“It’s always hard to see people who are manipulative and dangerous succeed – like our good president, a great example of that,” Seyfried said while sitting in a restaurant with an interviewer. “It’s weird living in a civilized restaurant. People are serving us food. You can’t take it too far, or you’ll go crazy—crazy. Like, how does the world still go around?”

Commenting on Fox News Digital at the time, Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet said Seyfried is free to say what she wants, but “she deserves whatever criticism she gets.”

“Amanda Seyfried obviously knows nothing about who Charlie Kirk really was. He is a victim of his algorithm and an echo chamber. But if your reaction to an innocent husband and father being killed in cold blood is to pile on and call him ‘hateful’ instead of offering words of comfort, or just being silent – I know the wild idea – then you are a hateful person,” said Kolverted.
