Lindsey Vonn Shares X-Ray Photos of Broken Leg After 2026 Olympics Injury

Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn shared a heartbreaking new photo of his broken leg after a devastating crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
“I’m bionic for real now,” Vonn, 41, shared on Friday, February 20, in a post about X, along with an x-ray photo of her leg.
X-rays showed his broken bone wrapped in what looked like a metal brace.
“As you can see, it took a lot of plates and screws to put it together but Dr. Hackett did an amazing job,” Vonn wrote on Instagram Friday, along with a carousel of her hospital videos with x-ray images. “Thank you Dr. Viola for the surgery again!”
He went on to say, “The way I’ve been hurt, I’ve been struggling a bit and I’m not out of the hospital yet… I’m about to.
Vonn broke her left tibia during her Olympic downhill event on February 8, just 13 seconds into her run. He was flown to Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. After the accident, he underwent four surgeries in Italy. He returned to the United States on Tuesday, February 17, and underwent multiple surgeries.
“Quick update… my last surgery went well,” Vonn shared in another Friday post. “It took a little over 6 hours. I was recovering from the surgery but the pain was difficult to control. I’m walking slowly but I hope to be out of the hospital soon. Thank you all for your support.”
Earlier in the week, Vonn shared that she hasn’t been on her feet in a week as she continues to recover from a gruesome injury.
“I’ve been in a hospital bed motionless since my race,” she wrote via X on Monday, February 16. “And even though I can’t stand up yet, going home feels amazing #imhome.”
He added, “I am very grateful to everyone in Italy for taking good care of me.”
A few days after returning to the United States, Vonn revealed that she is not only recovering physically, but she is also recovering emotionally after her dog, Leo, died the next day from a broken leg.
“These have been the hardest few days. Probably the hardest of my life,” Vonn shared on Instagram on Wednesday, February 18. “I still haven’t gotten over the fact that he’s gone… The day I crashed, and so did Leo. He had just been diagnosed with lung cancer (he survived lymphoma a year and a half ago) but now his heart was failing. He had no strength left in his body.”
He continued, “When I was sleeping [sic] in my hospital bed the day after my crash, we said goodbye to my big boy,” Vonn said. “I had lost so much that meant so much to me in such a short time. I do not believe you. My boy has been with me since my second ACL injury, when I needed him the most. He held me on the couch as I watched the Sochi Olympics. He lifted me up when I was down. He fell asleep [sic] about me, too [cuddled] me, it always makes me feel safe and loved. We’ve been through a lot together in 13 years.”
On January 30, just nine days before the Olympics, Vonn tore her ACL while competing in a World Cup race in Switzerland. He decided to compete in the Olympics anyway, later saying that his ACL injury was unrelated to the accident that broke his leg.
“I was 5 inches too tight on my line when my right arm got caught inside the gate, twisted me and resulted in my injury,” he said on Instagram after the accident. “My ACL and previous injuries had nothing to do with my crash. Unfortunately, I ended up with a broken tibia which is serious at the moment but will require multiple surgeries to get it right.”
