Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., invited an illegal immigrant to this year’s State of the Union address who was cited in two police reports when Massachusetts authorities refused to release him, citing the release as involving “sexual and child abuse,” according to the report.
The Boston Herald reported that the Milford Police Department (MPD) has denied a public records request for two 2021 reports allegedly targeting Marcelo Gomes da Silva, who Moulton invited to President Donald Trump’s speech on February 24.
According to a report by the Herald, the newspaper requested the reports dated June 30, 2021, and September 15, 2021. MPD Deputy Chief John Sanchioni denied the request, writing, “The records you are requesting are not public records pursuant to MGL c. 4 s. 7 cl. 26 (A).”
He also wrote that one report “involves sexual abuse of youth” and another “involves children,” citing Massachusetts’ public records law.

Sanchioni did not elaborate on the nature of the reports and did not say whether Gomes da Silva had been charged. The Herald reported that Gomes da Silva had been identified as a “person of interest” in the records it sought.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Sanchioni and Moulton’s office for comment on the story.
Gomes da Silva, 19, denied that he made a mistake and said that he was not aware of these reports until he was contacted by the media.

“I want to be clear: I have never beaten anyone. I have never been contacted by the police about the alleged assault,” Gomes da Silva told the Herald through his lawyer. “I even heard about these reports that are said to include my name in the media. I have never seen these alleged reports. My lawyer has already requested these alleged reports and denied them.”
A spokesman for Moulton reportedly told the Herald that, according to their review, Gomes da Silva has never been charged with a crime.
Gomes da Silva gained national attention earlier this year after Moulton invited him to attend Trump’s State of the Union address as his guest.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Gomes da Silva in May 2025, while he was driving his father’s car. It is reported that the agents were looking for his father at the time.
Gomes da Silva’s student visa had expired, and then-Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News at the time that “the facts [of his case] they haven’t changed.”
“[He] you are still an illegal alien and subject to removal proceedings. The Trump administration is committed to restoring law and order to our immigration system and will continue to fight for the arrest, detention and removal of unauthorized immigrants,” McLaughlin said.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also criticized Gomes da Silva’s invitation to the State of the Union.
“[Gomes da Silva] he is an illegal alien who has no right to belong in our nation. We are committed to enforcing the law and fighting for the arrest, detention, and removal of immigrants like him,” DHS wrote to X.
Moulton’s office pushed back at the time, saying, “Marcelo has been in the US since he was 6 years old. No criminal record. You’re not making anyone safe by targeting him. He’s just proving how far he’ll go to scare young people trying to build a future in this country.”
‘REAL’ MEMBER SAYS UNION TRAVELER’S INVITATION HAS BEEN BOUND
When Moulton announced that he was inviting Gomes da Silva as his guest, he said he was doing it because his story “captures what has happened in our immigration system right now.”
“The outpouring of support that Marcelo received following his arrest was no accident. It happened because people know the type of person Marcelo is,” continued Moulton. “He is the type of young person America should be investing in, not shutting down. If we want to call ourselves a nation with opportunities, we must start by empowering young people like Marcelo.”
Gomes da Silva also responded at the time, saying the invitation to attend the State of the Union was “very important.”

“I am proud to represent the strength, faith and hard work of our community,” he said. “Thanks to Seth for the invitation.”
The Boston Herald reported that it is challenging the police department’s decision to deny its records request, arguing that Gomes da Silva’s background has become part of the public debate over immigration enforcement following his State of the Union appearance.
