Our first choice OA, an excellent sci-fi series that was unfairly canceled after two seasons despite high ratings and a passionate fan following.
‘The OA’ (2016-2019)
Series creator and executive producer Brit Marling stars in between OA as Prairie Johnson, a young woman found at birth who has been missing for seven years. When he suddenly returns home, his return brings unpleasant revelations: Prairie, a blind woman, now seeing, has mysterious scars on her back and now calls herself “OA” (which means “original angel). Although her adoptive parents and the FBI are eager to learn what happened to her, OA will not comply with their requests.
Despite positive reviews from critics, appearances on “best of” lists and a passionate fan base, Netflix has been canceled. OA after the conclusion of its second season back in 2019. After a cliffhanger ending, the decision sparked outrage among viewers, and no reason for the cancellation was given. While the costar Jason Isaacs hinting at the possibility of returning from last year’s interview, two seasons are all you get to whet your appetite at the moment. The series is a compelling, dynamic sci-fi story that tackles difficult themes and incorporates an unconventional style that resonates with audiences.
‘American Primeval’ (2025)
The American Primeval it traces the events of the 1857 Utah War, a violent conflict between Mormon settlers, Native American tribes and the US military, while focusing on the events surrounding the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Serial stars Shwi and Mtekhala as Sara Holloway, a mother on the run with her young son after becoming a fugitive wanted for the murder of her wealthy husband. Together, they finally find the family they found as they face lawless brutality in the heart of the American West.
The American Primeval is a fascinating limited drama that takes a real historical event little known to the public and transforms it into a rich, well-written story about the violent power struggles between cultures and religions of the time. Unlike other Old West paintings that romanticize the period, The American Primeval embrace the refreshingly brutal and critical truth. While immersing fans with beautiful production design and cinematography, the show also draws you in with magnetic lead performances from Gilpin and Taylor Kitsch.
‘Cunk in the World’ (2023)
From Black Mirror the creator Charlie Brooker comes this very entertaining British mockumentary series Diane Morgan as the inexperienced investigative reporter Philomena Cunk – who previously led Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Clear again Cunk in Britain. In Cunk in the WorldCunk travels the world interviewing real life experts like Martin Kemp again Nigel Spivy about the world, while Morgan as Cunk evokes wonderful silliness and perfect comedic timing.
You don’t need to be familiar with Brooker’s past The Cunk works for your enjoyment Cunk in the World. The series combines high and low humor to send up serious anthropology documentaries. Self-confident and utterly sincere, Morgan shines in the role of Cunk, as the actor does his best to juggle history and science. Cunk in the World is British deadpan comedy at its best, and the show feels destined to become a cult classic.
