Nebraska-Omaha Women’s Basketball Players Help Save Drivers From Traffic

Two University of Nebraska-Omaha women’s basketball players played hero after practice on Tuesday, February 24, helping two drivers escape from their cars after they fell into a sinkhole.

“At first I thought it was just an accident,” the student-athlete said Olivia Borsutzki he told the college and high school sports center At 3 after the incident. “I left because something was wrong.”

Borsutzki and colleagues Ezra Kurban they were returning from practice when they saw the driver getting out of the car in the middle of the intersection. Soon, they noticed that there were two cars on the other side of the road that had fallen into a big hole.

“We were at the light, just waiting for it to turn green and then I saw that woman leave the car, and I said, ‘Oh!'” Borsutzki said on the Hurrdat ONE podcast. “It looked like an accident, and I looked closer … and I said, ‘Oh, there’s actually someone on the floor.’ “

Borsutzki said he didn’t see anyone helping, so he pulled his car over and ran to the man who couldn’t get out of the sinkhole after getting out of the car. He struggled to help her himself, so he called another bystander for more help.

“In the news, it doesn’t look that scary, not that deep,” Borsutzki said Athletic. “But standing in front of the hole – it was scary.”

He continued, “I wasn’t really thinking at the time.

Kurban was not far from his colleague to help him, and in a few minutes both drivers were safely out of the sinkholes and a safe distance from the dangerous situation.

The police arrived a few seconds later and checked the scene. Both drivers were shocked but were said to be uninjured.

After all was cleared, his teammates continued their journey back to practice and the magnitude of the moment – and the results of their efforts – came in.

“My dad called me the next day and said, ‘You’re in danger, it could be really bad for you,'” Borsutzki said of his parents, who live in Germany. “I was like, ‘Oh I wasn’t really thinking about it.

The teammates dropped a photo of the incident in their group chat, and soon after the video went viral on social media, it reached over 1.6 million likes on TikTok.

Borsutski told On3 that his strength coach texted him back then, “Very strong, big dog.”

The Nebraska-Ohama men’s basketball team showed its support for Good Samaritans, tweeting a video of the incident with a message of support.

“So proud of these Mavs 👏,” the team’s account posted.

Borsutzki said that many cars passed by the scene without helping, while others stopped to record the incident.

“Men and women were just filming. No one was helping,” he said At 3.

“Don’t be on your smartphones trying to record; help that person out. It could be you in that hole,” Borsutzki said. Athletic.

He continued, “That’s why it’s so crazy for us, why we’re in the news. We just helped, we did something big, but it’s not a big thing. I think everyone should do what we did.”
