Why Jamie Otis Isn’t Ready for Husband Doug Hehner to Get a Vasectomy

Married At First Sight a couple Jamie Otis again Doug Hehner they discuss the right time to start using a permanent method of birth control.
“My husband wants a vasectomy, but I don’t want a definite stop in our journey to create a family,” Otis, 39, wrote on Instagram on Friday, February 27. “We had a very difficult time conceiving and raising our family. Many pregnancies have been lost. Years of trying to conceive, but we didn’t give up and look at ourselves now.”
Otis and Hehner, 42, have been married since 2014, when they met on their wedding day in season one MAFS. Otis suffered a miscarriage two years later after learning she was expecting a boy they named Jonathan.
Otis gave birth to her first rainbow child, daughter Henley, in 2017. The couple later welcomed son Hendrix in 2020 and twins Huxley and Hawkins in 2024, respectively, after another pregnancy loss.
“Being pregnant and bringing life into the world is a miracle,” Otis said Friday. “I thank God that he blessed me to carry and give birth to four precious children on earth and one in heaven.🙏🏻❤️ Hubby, what else?!?”
I Qualifications alum reiterated that whether Hehner gets a vasectomy or not will be a decision for everyone driven by their family planning wishes.
“I can’t believe how angry I am that I just pissed people off by sharing Doug’s vasectomy,” Otis said in an Instagram Stories video shared later Friday. “I think that depends on whether we have it or not [more] children together. It’s something we both have to agree on.”
Hehner appeared behind the video of Otis, nodding his approval.
Otis also noted in his remarks that getting a vasectomy or tubal ligation can be a shared decision because “it affects [their] the whole family as a whole.”

Until they make their decision, Otis and Hehner have their hands full as parents of four children.
“We’ve had two kids already, so we know the damage that comes with a baby,” Otis said to himself. Us Weekly in October 2024. “I was expecting twins this time, I knew we had better prepare for them. We fully expect that there will be occasional chaos with two newborns, so I wanted a calm and peaceful place for their nursery.”
After settling into his routine with the 12-month-old twins, Otis has been keeping fans updated on his family via social media.
“There is nothing that makes my mother happy like seeing my children love each other and play happily together,” he said on Instagram earlier this month. “Hendrix had a hard time learning to be gentle and play the way the twins like to play. [because] he was just loud and loud. He didn’t care if they liked him or not and that broke my heart.”
Otis continued then, “[Hendrix] you are very patient [the twins] and he never stopped trying to play with them. He keeps trying to learn exactly what they like so they don’t get rid of him, and it really works. It’s so nice to see him keep trying in a gentle way.”
