New Hampshire country club shooter Hunter Nadeau said he targeted wealthy ‘rich people’: report

A New Hampshire man accused of opening fire on a group in the country last year, killing one person, reportedly confessed to all the shootings, telling investigators that he intended to kill the wealthy.

Hunter West Nadeau, 24, told police he carried out the shooting at the Sky Meadow Club steakhouse in Nashua in an attempt to get revenge on the rich for “helping the poor,” according to a police affidavit obtained by the Boston Globe.

The affidavit reportedly points to surveillance video showing Nadeau entering the club’s main gate around 7:17 pm on September 20, wearing a black hoodie and carrying a green backpack.

Nadeau then walked to Prime steakhouse, put on a face mask and fired a gun, firing five shots at employee Steve Burtman, according to the affidavit.

Burtman, who reportedly worked at the front desk, was hit in the face, the newspaper reported. He survived his injuries.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows Nadeau entering the restaurant and firing five more shots at multiple customers.

Nadeau allegedly beat and killed Robert Steven DeCesare, 59, who was staying with his wife and daughter.

A third fan was also injured when he fired several shots at a group of people.

Nadeau then “continued to shoot until he was attacked by other patrons in the restaurant, then retreated through the doors of the steakhouse,” the affidavit said.

A witness previously told The Associated Press that Nadeau allegedly shouted “Free Palestine” as the riot continued.

Police then found Nadeau on the club’s golf course, where he was “bleeding from self-inflicted wounds. [his] arms and wrists, and made statements indicating that he was a ‘bad person,’” according to the file.

It is said that he then took responsibility for the shooting, telling the police about his bad feelings about the wealthy.

Speaking to authorities from his hospital bed, Nadeau told investigators he was “tired of ‘scholars’ taking all the money,” according to the outlet.

Nadeau is said to have also told investigators that he chose Sky Meadow because he had worked there before and knew that the members were wealthy.

“He said he settled on Sky Meadow as a location because he had worked there for about a year as a server and knew you had to have money to have a membership there,” police said, according to the Globe.

“He didn’t mean a specific person but he didn’t care if he killed someone or not,” said the police.

Additionally, Nadeau explained why he targeted a wedding that was being held on the property at the time of the shooting, telling police that he “didn’t want to target ‘residents,'” according to the outlet.

Meanwhile, the shooting occurred less than a year after Luigi Mangione opened fire on UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a shooting spree in midtown Manhattan.

Investigators have revealed similar motives for Mangione’s alleged crimes.

In January, prosecutors filed multiple charges against Nadeau, including first-degree murder and second-degree negligent homicide, according to the New Hampshire Department of Justice.

He is being held without bail pending trial.
