Children’s Basketball Coach and Father Attack Another Team’s Coach, His Wife

A children’s basketball coach and his father were arrested after police said they attacked another coach and his wife during an argument following a second-grade game, according to authorities.
Brittany Ortiz38, of Malvern, and his father, William Stanley70, of Paoli, is accused of assaulting a couple following a Malvern Basketball League game at Holy Child School in Rosemont on February 1, according to Patch.com.
The opposing coach, his wife and the coach’s three-year-old daughter were all injured in the alleged assault, authorities said, the newspaper reported.
Ortiz is an assistant coach for one of the Malvern Basketball League teams, according to investigators, Patch.com reported.
He faces nine charges, including assault on a sports official, three counts of simple assault, one count of recklessly endangering another person, one count of disorderly conduct including fighting, and three counts of harassment, and court records were viewed. Us Weekly the show.
Stanley was also arrested on related charges including assault on a sports official and simple assault, WPVI-TV reported.
“Unfortunately, this happened in the gym hallway after the game, after verbal abuse on the field during the game,” Lower Merion Police Department Lt. Michael Keenan he told the television station.
The criminal complaint says an argument between Ortiz and the opposing team’s coach erupted after another coach went to check on him about his “behavior,” the television station reported.
The verbal altercation turned visible in the hallway after the game, when investigators say Ortiz grabbed the hair of another coach’s wife and slammed her to the floor in the hallway, according to the television station.
The woman’s head hit the ground, according to a criminal complaint viewed by WPVI-TV.
When another coach, who was holding a small child, tried to mediate, it is said that Stanley hit him on the head, according to the investigators, the television station reported.
After the alleged assault, the wife, who lost chunks of her hair, suffered a severe blow to the head, according to a criminal complaint obtained by NBC10 Philadelphia.
Another coach had bruises on his inner leg, and his child also had an injury on his leg, the report said, the newspaper reported.
An attorney representing Ortiz told NBC10 Philadelphia that he will “vigorously defend” him in court.
The attorney’s name was not listed in court records viewed by Us.
A lawyer Nathan J. Schadlerrepresentative for Stanley, in an emailed statement Us on Tuesday, February 24, that “Mr. Stanley affirms his complete innocence in this matter.”
“Mr. Stanley was taken to the hospital with broken ribs and head injuries as a result of this incident and, in fact, it was his family that called 911,” Schadler said. “We are conducting a full investigation into this matter in order to present a complete picture of the incident.”
A spokesperson for Holy Child School in Rosemont told NBC10 Philadelphia that the Malvern Basketball League was renting the school’s gym for the game.
The department did not immediately return a request for comment.
“It’s on the coaches and the adults alike at any kid’s sporting event to act like the adults in the room, because we are,” Keenan told WPVI-TV. “We’re there to promote a safe environment for children to learn and play. People get angry, understandably so. We like to compete. But when your little ones are involved, and you’re their boss, you have to.”
