Hilary Duff and the husband Matthew Koma they’re a real “unit” – but once a year, the power couple gets into a drawn-out, explosive fight.

After Fanning, a close friend of the couple, said, “Yeah, you guys never really fought,” Duff clarified that things could be difficult between her and Koma, 38, who she married in 2019.
“Well, that’s not true. We have one hard-fought war once a year,” they said Lizzie McGuire revealed the student. “He brought it up one day, he said, ‘It’s been a long time since we’ve had a fight.’ I’d say, ‘Are you ready?’”
Fanning, 32, laughed, asking, “Are you ready?”
“I’m not,” Duff admitted. “Last time I threw his phone in the Bougainvillea bush and it sounded really good.”
The “Roomates” singer recalled, “It was during the game [January 2025] fires [in Los Angeles]. We were fired up, we had all the kids happy, and we just needed to get it out.” (Duff and Koma meet friends Mandy Moore again Taylor Goldsmith and their children after their home in Pacific Palisades was destroyed.)

He revealed that while they were working together on his new album, Luck … or Somethingfighting was not on the menu.
“I don’t speak the language. He’s been making music all day, every day since he was 15. So I’m like, ‘That noise, what’s that? Take that out,'” Duff recalled, noting that Koma was almost a translator for him during the recording session.
She also added that her husband “knows my style and has a cool heart.”

“You definitely elevate me and my taste beyond belief,” said Duff. “After 10, 15 years of not making a record, I wanted it to feel like the work of people who grew up listening to me and waited a long time to hear from me. It feels really cohesive.”
Duff praised her partner during an interview with Fanning, telling her she was “comforted” knowing Koma had her back.

It took me a really long time to accept how much he could take off my plate.”
Duff explained that Koma’s “weird talent” also helped him feel comfortable working on his new album.
“I wasn’t interested in making a record with anybody else, I was like, ‘It’s got to be just me and you,'” he recalled. “The most honest things come from that because you have the front line of my life and everything I’ve been through, the really hard times and the really easy times that have made me who I am.”
