The last 2 tour winners have pulled this standard club out of their purse

Mark that as two wins in two weeks for TaylorMade staff players, but it’s also two wins in two weeks for players who don’t have a traditional 4-iron in their bags.
Like Collin Morikawa last week, Jacob Bridgeman is again trusting the iron head of his 4 iron, going with the TaylorMade Tour Preferred UDI 12 year old with the same Project X 6.5 iron shaft as his entire set.
Both Morikawa and Bridgeman use three different models of their irons, with Morikawa having an actual split set of TaylorMade P7CBs and then P730s in addition to a P-DHY iron, while Bridgeman replaced his P7CB 5-iron with a P770 version to maintain a higher pitch throughout the set.
“The 770 5-iron was added to his bag to create a 5-iron that landed high and stayed soft on the par 3s and par 5s,” said TaylorMade Senior Tour Rep Nick Springer. “He found the 770 to be a versatile team that he can forget when he needs to.”
Using a utility iron in the 4-iron slot is probably done for the same reasons, as many pros are now choosing more forgiveness options for hacking purposes or higher elevation.
Gotta love that it’s now two winners in a row using a TaylorMade iron instead of a 4 iron.
This is becoming more and more common.
The funny thing about Jacob Bridgeman’s is that it’s from 2014, when he was still in high school.

That’s why Morikawa, who tried a 9-wood last season, is the only player on the PGA Tour who regularly uses TaylorMade’s P-DHY driving iron, the larger of the company’s two iron options.
“He wanted a 4-iron that went up in the air easily,” TaylorMade Tour Rep Todd Chew said last week. “With the DHY, he doesn’t have to hit it hard to get it in the air. It also has enough spin to cut it, whereas with the previous 4 irons, it was hard to get the right spin to create that ball.

At all levels of golf, more and more players are choosing to drive iron type clubs in the 4-iron slot, not just 3 and 2 irons. Brian Campbell also won last season with a Ping iDi 4-iron.
During Fully Fit 2026, Sean Zak found his best 4-iron option and it was the TaylorMade P-UDI.
