Manchester Orchestra Drummer Timothy Dead Aged 42, Band Confirm

Very Timdrummer for indie band Manchester Orchestra, has died aged 42.

The news was announced by bandmates via Manchester Orchestra’s Instagram account on Sunday, February 15. “The entire Manchester Orchestra family is devastated by the sudden passing of our brother, Timothy Very,” the post read. “The person who is dearest to all of us was lucky enough to know him in this life. We were all afraid to tell people about this news as we all still believe in it.”

The cause of death has not been disclosed.

The post continued, “Tim was instantly likable and connected with everyone he met with kindness and warmth. His laugh was contagious and he quickly made people feel invited and encouraged. His humor and energy were the foundation that held the whole MO universe together. Strangers quickly became friends and friends became family.”

A photo of Very, taken backstage during a performance by the Atlanta, Georgia rockers, was included in the post. At the same time, Very raised his arms in the air in triumph as a crowd of fans watched from below the stage.

“He had an undeniable brilliance that was only matched by his dedication and love for the craft he was clearly placed on earth to do,” the document continued. “No words can do him justice, please know if you are someone who loved Tim and he loved you.”

The post also noted that Very was the father. “The only thing Tim loved more than making music was his family. You couldn’t be pressed for a happier father,” it read. “We love you Tim, thank you for loving us. You are a force of hope that will always be there for all our days.”

Fellow singers offered their condolences within the comments section of the compilation post Riley Breckenridge from the Californian rock band Triple. “Heartbreaking. He was a ray of light, a force of joy and hope, and incredibly talented. He was one of a kind. I love you. I’m so sorry,” he wrote.

A drummer based in New York City, Tucker’s Lawhe also commented, “I’m so sorry to hear this 💔.”

Although Very was not the founding drummer of Manchester Orchestra, he was the longest-serving drummer after joining the group in 2011 and playing with it for 15 years, according to a report by Rolling Stone per week.

The outlet also noted that Very’s art can be heard on the band’s last three albums: Copysince 2014, The Black Mile to the topfrom 2017, too The Million Masks of Godfrom 2021.

During a February 2022 appearance on the “Drummers on Drumming” podcast, hosted by Ben HilzingerHe went on to explain that he hoped his music would connect with fans in more ways than one. “I like to think that after doing this for 20 years or more, whatever it is now, that I’m bringing something to the table that’s not just drums and grooves and all that, but an understanding of what a song should have, or could have in it, hopefully enhance it or hopefully add something – a flavor, a feeling to it,” he said on the show.
