Top medicine with Blak lens: The second big, bright season of ‘Our Medicine’ is coming soon

Our Medicine season 2 sees the continuation of this powerful National Indigenous Television (NITV) series, which returns for an extended second season of two weekly episodes from Sunday March 15 at 7:30pm on NITV and SBS On Demand, and from Thursday, March 26 at 8:30pm on SBS.
Deep Access. Multiple Episodes. Strong Cultural Practices on Screen.
Building on the success of its six-part first season, Our Medicine S2 expands to eight episodes. Bringing unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the front lines of Australia’s struggling medical services, series 2 delves deeper into emergency care, cultural healing practices, and the patient’s emotional journey across country and community.
Where Culture, Care and Disaster Intertwine
Against the continuing effects of colonialism, systemic inequality and mistrust in health care, this season focuses on First Nations technology as a solution. It is spoken through the eyes of those who bring care, Our Medicine S2 reveals how culturally informed practice improves patient outcomes, restoring trust in institutional health care.
From Emergency Response to Healing the World
Extending its reach to all ambulance services, major hospitals, juvenile justice and remote healing facilities, Our Medicine S2 captures the intensity of emergency medicine alongside the quiet, powerful work of cultural healing and continuity of care.
This season continues to bring viewers inside access to major health centers and community-led services, including Queensland Ambulance Service, Cairns Hospital, Joyce Palmer Health Service, Bwgcolman Healing Service in Palm Island, Akeyulerre Healing Center in Alice Springs, and NSW Youth Justice.
Traditional Medicine Enters the Hospital System
In a historic moment, the series documents traditional bush medicine entering the clinical setting for the first time, as Alice Springs Hospital pioneers a bicultural approach that combines Western evidence-based care with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healing practices.
A Story of Power, Leadership and Change
At a time when Australia’s health system is under constant pressure, Our Medicine S2 set out to reframe the narrative – highlighting Blak’s creativity, cutting-edge leadership and practical solutions from First Nations communities themselves. Across metropolitan, regional and remote locations, this season places audiences inside high-impact environments while focusing on issues of communication, cultural safety and innovation led by United Nations practitioners.
Narrated by proud Goa, Gunggari, Wakka Wakka Murri woman Leah Purcell AM, Our Medicine S2 is directed by proud Noongar woman Karla Hart (Yokai Footy, Family Rules) and co-directed by proud Yawuru, Bardi and Kija woman Kimberley Benjamin (Warm Props).
“As a filmmaker and a proud Noongar woman, this series is my way of celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander excellence in health, honoring our Elders, our healers and the life-saving work that happens in communities across the country, while shining a light on the compassion, cultural knowledge and peaceful bravery that is transforming health outcomes for our people,” said Series Director, Karla Hart.
Our Medicine S2 is a Pink Pepper and Periscope Pictures production for NITV. Principal production funds from Screen Australia’s First Nations Department and NITV. Funded with support from Screenwest & Lotterywest.
