James Patterson‘s The cross is back for a second season – but who is back and who isn’t after a shocking screen split and another surprise reunion?
The Cross, due to debut in 2024, is based on Alex Cross a series of novels written by Patterson. The series follows psychologist and homicide expert DC Metro Detective Alex Cross, who goes after some of America’s most dangerous killers. Together with his partner, Cross navigates the dangers of the criminal underworld while trying to keep his family safe.
In addition to Mason and Lillard, The cross stars Aldis Hodge, Isaiah Mustafa, Juanita Jennings, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd again Jennifer Wigmore.
“Every time you go to work, every episode is a new adventure. You don’t really know what’s coming because we both went in and auditioned. We fought for these parts and at that time, Cross didn’t exist yet. The TV show didn’t exist yet. So when we got the jobs, we signed up for the 10 pages we had as part of the audition,” Lievancely told Audit Us Weekly in February 2026. “It’s a real joy to play these characters and be a part of this world [because] Cross is now a global phenomenon. “
Lillard praised Cross’ viewers, adding, “They got 40 million views in the first 20 days. So now we’re very excited to be a part of this great show. We’re excited for the people who are joining us throughout this journey. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

There wouldn’t be Alex Cross without a main character so Aldis Hodge is front and center in season 2.

Like Aldis Hodge, Isaya Mustafa is back as Detective John Sampson.

Season 2 picked up Alona Tal’s character Kayla when her work with Alex Cross leads to them sleeping together.
Samantha leaves
Speaking of Alex Cross’ love life, Samantha Walkes returned as Elle in season 2 but was no longer dating him when the show began.
Jennifer Wigmore
After being a main cast member in season 1, Jennifer Wigmore’s Head April Anderson is now being honored as a special guest star.
Eloise Mumford
Eloise Mumford was introduced as Shannon in season 1 – a role she did not reprise going forward.
Ryan Eggold
While Ryan Eggold was the main villain in season 1 known as Ed Ramsey it is not expected that he will return for more episodes.
Jeanine Mason
Season 2 introduced Jeanine Mason as the new person Alex Cross was hunting. She is named Rebecca but her real name is Luz.
Wes Chatham
Another newcomer is Wes Chatham, who played the role of Donnie for the entire second season.

Bobby Trey appeared in season 1 but continues to play a role in season 2.
Matthew Lillard
Matthew Lillard has been cast as Crestbrook Industries billionaire CEO Lance Durand in season 2.
