Nicole Curtis Breaks Silence After HGTV Cancels Addiction Rehab Due To Racial Slur

Rehab Addict the host Nicole Curtis is speaking after HGTV released all episodes of the show on its platforms.
On Wednesday, February 11, RadarOnline shared photos of Curtis, 49, using in-word while completing a renovation project on the popular home restoration series. The slur was caught on camera but not seen when the episode aired in June 2025, according to RadarOnline.
Warner Bros. Discovery-owned HGTV has quickly released future episodes of the Rehab Addictwhich was expected to premiere on Wednesday, and replace previous episodes on HBO Max and Discovery+.
“HGTV was recently made aware of a racially offensive comment made during the filming of Rehab Addict. Not only is language like this hurtful and discouraging to our viewers, partners, and staff – it is inconsistent with HGTV’s standards,” HGTV said. Us Weekly in a statement on Wednesday. “Therefore, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms. We are dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion in all of our content and our workplace.”
After news of the show’s cancellation broke, Curtis wrote on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, “There’s a lot to it, but my family comes first and I need to be a mom right now more than anything else. . . I’m going to take the time to be like I’ve always been with you, being transparent and honest. TMZ called me as I was just on my phone after I was at school – I’ll say this in a nutshell…”
In a subsequent Instagram story, Curtis shared a text exchange with TMZ in which he spoke about his use of racial slurs and Rehab Addictsudden cancellation.
“As for HGTV, thank you for the 15-year journey we’ve shared. It’s been a meaningful chapter, but my focus is not on my career,” he wrote to a TMZ reporter. “Right now my focus is on my relationship with my community – people don’t really know my character and where my heart is.”
Curtis continued, “I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and is not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone.”
“As discussed, I’m a mom and I’ve been doing mom things all day offline,” Curtis concluded. “I see that my plans were in play, but my family is the most important to me and I will do all this now.”
In pictures that have resurfaced on the set of Rehab Addictpublished by RadarOnline on Wednesday, Curtis was filmed using the in-word while completing repairs in Wyoming.
“Why? “Oh, brother [n-word].”
Curtis appeared shocked by his use of the slur and asked the photographers to remove the photo.
“What the f*** did I just say?” he said. “Can you kill that?” he asked and the person in the back appeared laughing.
Curtis then said, “F*** my life.”
Rehab Addict premiered in 2010 on the DIY Network (now known as the Magnolia Network) before moving to HGTV for its fourth season in 2014.
