Madelyn Keys you measure from behind Finding His Edge had separate viewers between Brayden and Freddie – and it’s clear a divisive season 1 before the show returns for more episodes.
During a special interview with Us Weekly, Keys, 24, spoke to Adriana telling her now-boyfriend Freddie (Olly Atkins) that her love interest and figure skating partner Brayden (Cale Ambrozic) was not true.
“I think it was real for Adriana. Everyone can have their own opinion watching the show. Obviously, I’m not here to take that away from you. But when I read the scripts and went through it, my personal opinion of what she was going through was that it was really real for Adriana,” Keys commented. “But I think at the same time, her relationship with Freddie was intertwined with a lot of her history – especially the history of the time that was so important to her.”
Keys revealed that Adriana’s attraction to Freddie finally “solidified” in season 1.
“Specifically with that ‘It wasn’t real’ line, I think that’s something he said without thinking about the full impact of it,” he explained. “And again, without knowing that Brayden was there to testify at the time – even if he didn’t hear the words. Adriana then tries to point out that the public acts of love that Freddie witnessed – which he knew would hurt her – were part of the plan. She doesn’t refer to the times she and Brayden shared in private.”
He continued: “But I also think that’s not what he was thinking at the time, if Brayden was there to talk to him about that, he would have said something different.”
Based on Jennifer Iacopellithe novel of the same name, Finding Her Edge is a YA romance about a famous publisher whose family legacy and rank are at stake. She has to pretend she’s in a fake relationship with her new partner to get funding while still dealing with feelings for her old partner.
Iacopelli, meanwhile, took a dig at Adriana saying her feelings for Brayden are “not real,” adding, “As far as the show is concerned, this is my interpretation.
The author could see where Adriana was coming from.
“He’s a guy who has a logical track record throughout the book — except for these moments where he’s like, ‘Oh, this is what people talk about when they talk about physical contact,'” Iacopelli shared. “You have these enlightening moments and maybe you’re too small-hearted not to see them. I hope you take this journey on the page too.”
The hit series premiered in January as viewers tuned in to see Adriana and Brayden’s growing connection – and Freddie.
“There are passionate fans on both sides of the spectrum. For me personally, it’s been fun to see what the fans like the most about each team. There’s a world where Adriana is growing up this coming season, and I’m hoping for the same things for those characters,” Keys said. “You’re probably a fan who likes that Freddie is kind even when he’s upset with Adriana. He puts her first and is someone who always tries his best – even if it doesn’t take a step when he feels like it. That’s a quality Brayden should emulate and it will serve him well.”
The actress added: “At the same time, this idea of being more confident and confident in who you are and what you want and what you deserve is something that I think Freddie can learn from as well. So I think when you choose a team, how much do you choose their characteristics – which can change – compared to who they are now? For me, I understand both sides and I will learn more to see what will happen next.”

While Iacopelli’s book ended with Adriana making the same decision as the show’s finale, Netflix’s renewal of Find her Edge meant some changes could happen on screen.
“There is a debate if this is still going to be a decision, I don’t know. We have another season to look forward to. I think for me it was about looking at everything that happened in Jennifer Iacopelli’s book but also its original source, which is Jane Austen’s Persuasion.”
In addition, the main trio, Finding His Edge and the stars Alexandra Beaton, Alice Malakhov, Millie Davis, Niko Ceci again Harmon Walsh. Canadian figure skating champions Piper Gilles again Paul Poirier they appeared as themselves in the episode when the British skating champions Lilah Fear again Lewis Gibson voiced the TV commentators on the show. (Iacopelli appeared briefly as a secretary in the show.)
Keys is excited about where the show will go from here — including Adriana forging bonds outside of her love triangle. Specifically, Keys suggested many scenes between Adriana and Riley (Davis) after the end of that season 1.
“For most of season 1, Riley is not treated the way she should be treated. I think Adriana takes her for granted and she takes their friendship for granted,” he said. “So I love that last moment when we see that she’s not the Riley we saw before. There’s more to her now and she’s confident in that. I want to see Riley get mad at Adriana. I want to put her in her place and obviously I want them to maintain a friendship through this whole thing. I hope they find a way to fix it but Adriana has to take full responsibility.”
