Inmates Convicted of Murder Break Out of Georgia Jail and Escape

Two men accused of separate murders are on the run after authorities say they escaped from a southwest Georgia prison.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office urged the public in a Monday, February 9, news release to look out for the 20-year-old. Rickey Martin and 21 years old Kentravious Holmes.
Both men were released from the Sumter County Jail around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, February 8, according to the agency.
Martin and Holmes were arrested on multiple charges at the facility, “including Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, and Murder,” the sheriff’s office said.
It is not yet clear how the two escaped, as authorities have not released further details on the arrest warrant.
Martin is charged with first degree murder in the shooting of a five-year-old girl, according to 13WMAZ, citing public information released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He was also accused of injuring two other people during a shooting in February 2025.
In a February 10, 2025, news release, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced that Martin had been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting, which occurred two days earlier, on February 8, 2025.
When the Americus Police Department responded to the shooting that night, officers found several people shot, including a five-year-old child. Peyton Brielle Robertswho eventually died from his injuries, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Martin was one of several people charged in the shooting.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation did not elaborate on what led to the shooting in this report.
It is unclear whether Martin has retained legal representation or entered a plea following his arrest.
In another incident last year, Holmes was wanted by the Americus Police Department after allegedly shooting and killing a 21-year-old. Amon Kevone Harvey home on April 16, 2025, WALB reported.
Holmes was found the following month, when he was arrested by Americus police on May 3, authorities said, according to the television station.
Details of Holmes’ legal representation were not available.
The motive for the shooting that killed Harvey is unclear.
Harvey, whose family called him “Moody,” was described as a “devoted father to his daughters,” in his online obituary, which also said he “loved his mother and siblings fiercely.”
In the Sheriff’s Office’s alert about Martin and Holmes, Martin is described as Black, 5-foot-4, weighing 120 pounds and having a “smooth build.”
The sheriff’s office described Holmes as Black, 5-foot-8, weighing 155 pounds and with “untwisted dreads.”
He also has several face and neck tattoos, including a dollar sign on his forehead, a broken heart tattoo and a “Baby Kay” tattoo above his right eye, according to the agency.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call 911 or the agency at (229) 924-4094.
Sumter County is located approximately 145 miles south of Atlanta.
